The City of Georgetown Commission on Aging met on May 21, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Public Safety
Facility, located at 3500 DB Wood Road, Georgetown, TX 78633.
The City of Georgetown is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). If you require assistance in

Regular Session
(This Regular session may, at any time, be recessed to convene an Executive Session for any purpose authorized by the Open
Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551.)
A. Call to Order Chairman Gene Jantzen called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. Five Board
members were present, with Beverly Stehle, Sharon Covey and Dan Bonner absent, thus
constituting a quorum. Note: Bernie Farkas resigned on May 16, 2018, as of this date no
replacement has been appointed, Commission consists of 8 members rather than 9. Also present
were Fire Chief John Sullivan, Staff Support to the Commission, and Linda White, Staff Liaison
Office Specialist.
Legislative Regular Agenda
B. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes of the meeting held on April 16, 2018
— Gene Jantzen, Board Chair. Dennis Dalrymple moved to approve the minutes from the meeting
held on April 16, 2018. Ginny Hahn seconded the motion, which the Board approved unanimously.

C. Presentation and discussion on Housing for seniors in Georgetown — Nat Waggoner, Long
Range Planning and Susan Watkins, Housing Coordinator. Nat and Susan presented a power point
presentation regarding housing choices as it relates to seniors and the 2030 Housing Plan Update.
Discussion occurred. Nat and Susan will return in the fall to update the Commission on Georgetown
housing and housing in relationship to senior residents.
D. Presentation and discussion on The Arc of Texas — Marcia Espinal, Director of Community
Engagement & Advancement, The Arc of Texas. Marcia introduced Kara Prior who is the Programs
Manager for The Arc of Texas. Marcia explained that The Arch of Texas serves individuals with
intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Marcia gave an overview of how The
Arch of Texas serves Williamson County. Kara gave an overview of the volunteer opportunities
available through The Arc of Texas and the areas of service volunteers may serve. Discussion
occurred.
E. Discuss and possible action on Georgetown Senior Expo — Virginia Lazenby, Commission on
Aging. Virginia presented an updated overview of the planning stages pertaining to the Senior
Expo. Discussion occurred. Tiffany Enos moved to approve the concept of the Senior Expo as
Commission on Aging May 21, 2018
presented tonight, inclusive of the City assuming administrative duties entailing providing start-up
funds, holding and dispensing of funds, signing contracts, and the Commission will assume
leadership of the event with support staff from the City. Dennis Dalrymple seconded the motion,
which the Board approved unanimously.
F. Discussion and possible action of Priority Initiatives: Communication, Transportation,
Dental Care, Affordable Housing, Mental Health, Legal Aid — Gene Jantzen, Board Chair.
Tabled until June meeting.
G. Discussion of future agendas and priorities — Gene Jantzen, Board Chair. Discussion of the
Priority Initiatives.
Adjournment
The next Commission meeting will be Monday, June 18, 2018 at 6:00 p.m., at the Public Safety Facility,
3500 DB Wood Road, Georgetown, Texas.
The meeting adjourned at 8:06 p.m. on a motion by Tiffany Enos, seconded by Dennis Dalrymple, which
the Board approved unanimously. (5-0)

were present, with Beverly Stehle, Bernie Farkas and Dan Bonner absent, thus constituting a
quorum. Also present were Fire Chief John Sullivan, and Linda White, Staff Liaison Office
Specialist.

B. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes of the meeting held on March 19, 2018
— Gene Jantzen, Board Chair. Tiffany Enos moved to approve the minutes from the meeting held
on March 19, 2018. Ginny Hahn seconded the motion, which the Board approved unanimously.

C. Update on services and programs provided by Georgetown Fire/Medical Services - John
Sullivan, Fire Chief, Georgetown Fire Department. Fire Chief John Sullivan gave an overview of
various medical services needed and provided by the Emergency Medical Services staff over the
past several months. Discussion occurred. Chief Sullivan shared information from a commentary
that was published in theAustin American Statesman and a publication of Fort Worth's recent survey
regarding their participation in their Age Friendly Community Initiative. Chief Sullivan will
forward these two publications to Linda to send to the Commission.
D. Discussion and possible action on "Elder Friendly Design" pamphlet suggesting builders
consider design elements that go further than the legislated ADA requirements — Ginny Hahn,
Vice Chair, Commission on Aging. Commission reviewed the pamphlet. Ginny shared that she is
trying to schedule another appointment with Wayne Reed, Assistant City Manager, to further
discuss the pamphlet design and distribution.
E. Discussion and possible action on Georgetown Senior Expo — Virginia Lazenby, Commission
on Aging. Ms. Lazenby distributed notes that gave an update on the status of the plans for the
Senior Expo. Discussion occurred.
Commission on Aging April 16, 2018
F. Presentation entitled "The Five Essentials of Health" featuring "Brain Fit" to benefit seniors'
overall wellness — Dr. Kelsey Keen, Keen Family Wellness. Dr. Keen's presentation centered
around five essentials to good health: chiropractic care, the right mindset, pure and simple nutrition,
exercise and oxygen, and minimizing toxin exposure.
G. Discussion and possible action of retaining current Priority Initiatives: Communication,
Transportation, Dental Care, Affordable Housing, Mental Health, Legal Aid — and possibly
incorporating new Priority Initiatives — Gene Jantzen, Board Chair. Chairman Jantzen gave
the results of the Commissioners' I", 2nd, and 3`d choices of the initiatives that they would prefer to
work with. They are as follows:
Dennis Dalrymple - # 1 Transportation
Dan Bonner - # 1 Communication, #2 Affordable Housing
Beverly Stehle — ad hoc to whomever needs assistance
Virginia Lazenby — Senior Expo
Sharon Covey - # 1 Dental, #2 Communication, #3 Legal Aid

Tiffany Enos - #1 Communication, #2 Senior Expo
Bernie Farkas — will report in May
Discussion occurred regarding Ginny's suggesting a new priority initiative, "Neighbors Helping
Neighbors". Commission suggested Ginny and Dan Bonner meet with several members of the
Ministerial Alliance to begin getting some basic ideas together, various suggestions and resources
on how people can help each other. Ginny will report to the Commission at a future date.
H. Discussion of future agendas and priorities — Gene Jantzen, Board Chair. The May agenda will
include Virginia Lazenby giving updates on the Georgetown Senior Expo; Nat Waggoner, Long
Range Planning and Susan Watkins, Housing Coordinator, will update the Commission on housing
for seniors; Marcia Espinal, Director of Community Engagement & Advancement at The Arc of
Texas, will present about the agency.

The next Commission meeting will be Monday, May 21, 2018 at 6:00 p.m., at the Public Safety Facility,
3500 DB Wood Road, Georgetown, Texas.
The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m. on a motion by Virginia Lazenby, seconded by Dennis Dalrymple,
which the Board approved unanimously. (6-0)
