Welcome to
Georgetown, TX

Town Square in Texas and
Home of the largest percentage of
Senior Citizens in Texas (>30%)
Thank you for your interest in building
in our beautiful city.
We have a large older adult
population, and many programs to
support their aging.
While we know that you are aware of
ADA requirements, we're inviting you
to consider Elder Friendly Design
which will help your business / facility
to be more customer friendly.
Elder Friendly Design incorporates
building layout, amenities and features
that make it easier for aging seniors,
many of whom have mobility, cognitive,
audio, visual and other physical
limitations, to visit and shop at local
businesses.
Among the design features you will
want to consider are:
• Parking and drop-off site adjacent
to entryway for wheelchair users
• Bright, glare -free lighting
• Wider aisles to accommodate
multiple customers and wheelchairs
• Non -slip, level indoor flooring
without risers or elevated
thresholds
• Large print signs and tags in high -
contrast colors
• Places to sit and rest
• Working electric carts (where
applicable)
• Captioning on promotional videos
for hearing impaired
• Having magnifying glasses
available for reading fine print
• Readily available customer service
and carry -out assistance
• Automatic and power -assisted
door openers
• Electronic equipment with large
buttons and big lettering
We commend you for implementing
ADA required building elements
and urge you to consider design
elements that go further than the
legislated ADA requirements.
Why Elder Friendly Design?
Elders are a large percentage of
Georgetown's population, and are
growing in number.
With EFD, you will:
Attract more customers to your
