Library Advisory Board
City of Georgetown
March 20, 2018
The Library Advisory Board met on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 6 p.m. in the second floor Small Conference
Room, Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. 8th Street
MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE: Pat Baldwin, Lindsay Cooper, John Hudson, Michael Kelley, Pete Rose and
Thom Sinwell.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Linda Schaffer
STAFF IN ATTENDANCE: Eric Lashley - Library Director
Chair Rose called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M.
Regular Agenda
A. Citizens wishing to address the Board. As of the deadline, no persons were signed up to speak on
items other than what was posted on the agenda. No action required.
B. Introduction of new board member Michael Kelley. —Pete Rose, Board Chair. Board members
introduced themselves to Kelley who introduced himself and discussed his background. No action
required.
C. Review of bylaws and attendance policy. —Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley reviewed the bylaws
and attendance policy with the board. No action required.
D. Review of minutes from the February 20 2018 Library Advisory Board meeting. — Pete Rose, Chair.
Motion by Hudson; second by Sinwell to approve the February 20, 2018 Library Advisory board
meeting minutes. Approved 6-0 (Schaffer absent).
E. Discussion and possible action regarding the election of a vice -chair and secretary. — Pete Rose, Chair.
Following brief discussion, there was a motion by Hudson; second by Kelley to elect Lindsay Cooper
as Vice -Chair. Approved 6-0 (Schaffer absent). Motion by Sinwell; second by Hudson to elect Pat
Baldwin as Secretary. Approved 6-0 (Schaffer absent).
F. Consideration and possible action regarding boar meeting time, day and location. — Pete Rose, Chair.
After much discussion, motion by Baldwin; second by Cooper to change the Library Advisory Board
meetings for the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. starting on May 1, 2018. Approved 6-0
(Schaffer absent).
G. Consideration of the Library Director's report. — Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley reported that the
library is a finalist for the 2018 Institute of Museum and Library Service National Medal, the highest
honor a library or museum can receive in this country. Receiving the finalist nomination is a major
honor.
Lashley reported that the first month of the no fine policy had gone very well. Sales in the Second -Hand
Prose Bookstore are up twenty-five percent since changing book sales from monthly specials to
donation only.
The board reviewed the library's monthly statistics and comments from the suggestion box. No action
required.
H. Report on strategic plan focus groups. — John Hudson, Board member. Hudson conducted a focus
group with the library's Teen Advisory board and plans to conduct a focus group with students from
both GISD high schools. Hudson will also conduct two more meetings with the library's community
partners including, Native Plant Society - Williamson County Chapter, Congregation Havurah Shalom,
Georgetown Ministerial Alliance, Courageous Conversations, Georgetown Health Foundation,
Bluebonnet Trails Community Services, The Georgetown Project, The Caring Place, Georgetown
Housing Authority, Georgetown Eagle's Nest, Gospel Justice Legal Aid, Georgetown Citizen
Community Memorial Association, and Brookwood in Georgetown (BiG). No action required.
Chair Rose adjourned the meeting at 7:30 p.m.
