AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN TEXAS, AMENDING
THAT CERTAIN ORDINANCE OF SAID CITY CREATING PARKING
ZONES, AND REGULATING PARKING IN SAID ZONES; WHICH SAID
ORDINANCE WAS PASSED AND APPROVED ON THE 13th DAY OF
JANUARY 1947, AND IS COPIED IN COLLECTED ORDINANCES AS
UNDER MOTOR VEHICLE LANTS, (J) OF SECTION 14, THEREOF: BY
ADDING TO THE SAID " PARKING ZONE " ORDINANCE., THE PRO+
VISIONS HEREIN SET OUT, THAT AN EMERGENCY IS HERE DE-
CLARED, AUTHORIZING SUSPENSION OF RULES REQUIRING THREE
READINGS AT THREE SEPARATE MEETINGS OF COUNCIL,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GEORGETOWN TEXASs
That the ordinance of the said City, that the "Parking Zone"
passed and approved on the 13th, day of January 1947, and that is
copied into " COLLECTED ORDINAIICES", in sub -division (J) of section 14, of
Motor Vehicle Laws thereof, is hereby amended by adding thereto the following
provisions, to writs
THAT THE ENTIRE length of Austin Avenue, is placed in the Parking
Zone, said Parking Zone law shall apply to all of said street.
That it shall be unlawful, to at any time, park any character of
vehicle, on that part of said Austin Avenue, beginning at the north end of the
North San Gabriel River Bridge, and extending to the south end of the South
San Gabriel River Bridge.
That on all other portions of the said Austin Avenue, it shall be un-
lawful to park any vehicle, upon the paved portion thereof, unless the said ve-
hicle is parked parallel with and within twenty-four (24) inches from the curb,
or outer edge of the pavement; provided however, that upon the east side of the
said Street, and upon that portion thereof, lying between 7th, and 8th, streets,
and adjacent to the Court House Square, vehicles shall be parked at an angle to
the curb, and within the lines indicating the parking spaces.
--'- That subject to the above provisions, and in conformity thereto, the
City may at any time, and at any place mark off, and establish parking spaces,
on said street, adjacent to the curbs thereof, and when said parking spaces are
so marked and established, it shall be unlawful to park, near thereto, at a
place other than in such parking space*
7 That when spaces for parallel parking have been marked off and estab-
lished, the City may ereot in the curb, and adjacent thereto, the parking meter
that is described and established in the ordinance that is here being amended=
and that when such parking meters have been so erected, any parking in the space
adjacent thereto shall be governed by the ordinance that is here being amended,
and by the provisions hereof.
That all parking meters heretofore erected, and all parking meters
may hereafter be erected under the provisions of the said ordinance being here
amended, and under this amendment thereto, shall be presumed,to be accurate and
correct; and that when any vehicle is parked in a parking space, adjacent to
any such meter, and such meter does not then and there indicate that the proper
coin has been placed in the said meter, it shall be presumed that such vehicle
is then and there unlawfully parked.
That the penalty for overtime parking in a parking space adjacent to
a parking meter shall be a fine in any sum not to excede ($10.00) ten dollars.
That the penalty of any other manner of unlawful"parking, shall be t fine in
sum not less than ten ($10.00) dollars and not more than two hundred ($200.00)
dollars.
The fact that prompt provisions should be made for parallel parking
on Austin Avenue, creates an emergency, requiring that the rules with reference to
the reading of an ordinance at three separate meetings before passage should be
suspended, and the same are here suspended and this ordinance is here and now
finally passed.
