RESOLUTION PROTESTING THE DISCONTINUANCE
OF THE 9.97 MILES OF R. R. BETWEEN ROUND
ROCK APID GEORGETOWN
11rHEREAS, the 9.97 miles of R. R. between Round Rock and
Georgetown known as "The Georgetown Tap", was promoted and
built by certain enterprising Georgetown Citizens in the year
1876, it thereafter becoming the property of the I. & G. N.
now the Missouri Pacific Railroad Compan77; and that for over
eighty years this line or railroad has been of incalculable
value to the City of Georgetown, in contributing to its in-
dustrial and social life, and that it is still of great value
to the said City, and s
ItiHEREAS, the said Missouri Pacific Railroad Company, has
made application to the U. S. Interstate Commerce Commission,
for a permit to abandon, discontinue and remove the said line
of rgilroad; and that should the said application be granted,
and the said line of railroad be discontinued the City of
Georgetown would be greatly damaged and injured thereby.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS.
That the City of Georgetown, in a regular meeting to
the City Council of the said City, here and now enters its
protest against the granting, of the above mentioned permit;
and here and now strenuously protests the abandonment, dis-
continuance or removal of the said line of railroad.
That be it further resolved that a copy of this reso-
lution be mailed to the said Missouri Pacific Railroad C an-
pAny, a copy to the U. S. Interstate Commerce Commission,
and a copy to each of our U. S. Senators from Texas, and a
copy to our Congressman from this Texas District ; with the
prayer that said Senators and Congressman assist the City
in pressing this protest, and that as a result thereof the
said petition to abandon said line of railroad, be in all
things denied by the Interstate Commerce Commission.
