TOs Governor Price Daniel and Texas Water Commission SUBJECT, Public Hearing on U. S. Army Engineers' Recommendation on Lansport and San Gabriel Dam Project, April 30,, 1962, at 2:30 p. m., State Office Building, Austin, Texas Pursuant to the Governor's suggestion at a meeting with him on February 16, when a group of 6itizens of ++illiamson County informally met in his office for the purpose of discussing the final approval or disapproval by the Governor of the U. S. Army Engineers Corps' recommendation as to the location and construction of a series of dams recommended for water conservation and flood control in the San Gabriel watershed, and the Committee has since been advised that this hearing and others have been notified by the Texas Vater Commission that such a meeting will be held for the purpose above stated. Therefore, a Committee of Citizens of Irilliamson County interested in this project met on April 10,19U , in the Courthouse of Williamson County to discuss the Army Engineers' recommendation and to recommend a proposal to be substituted for the original recommendation of the Army Engineers. The following proposal was unanimously approved and adopted by the Citizens Group in this meetings "4YE PROPOSE AND STRONGLY RECOMMEND, IN LIEU OF TT�E ARMY ENGINEERS' REC0198NDATION, THAT THE TWO DAMS, ONE ON THE. NORTH FORK AND ONE ON THE SOUTH FORK OF THE SAN GABRIEL RIVERS ABOVE GEORGETOWN BE BUILT, AND UP STREA14 FLOOD PROTECTION DAMS BE BUILT ON THE TRIBUTARIES OF THE SAN GABRIEL RIVER, AND LATER„IF DEE1tMD TO BE NECESSARY , AN ADEQUATE DAM BE BUILT AT LANEPORT. IT IS FELT THAT THE UELFARE OF THE CITIZENS AND THE PROTECTION OF THEIR PRO* PERT Y IN WILLIAMSON COUNTY SHOULD BE PROVIDED WITH FLOOD PROTECTION AND THE BENEFITS OF WATER CONSERVATION, IN THE SAME DEGREE AS THESE BENEFITS ARE AFrORDED TO THE CITIZENS OF THE COUNTIES BELOW WILLIAMSON COUNTY IN THE BRAZOS RIVER WATERSHED. WE, THEREFORE RECOMIEND THAT THIS PLAN BE SUB* STITUTED IN LIEU OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS SUBMITTED TO YOU BY THE U. S. CORP OF ENGINEERS.” Respectfully submitted, H. B. FOX, Taylor, Texas. J. T.
