HomeMy WebLinkAbout0131_0003authorized# empowered and directed to execute and deliver for and in the name of the City of Georgetown at any time to any pesons of African descent proper deeds of conveyance to any lots shown in said plat in the North tier of lots numbered from 1 to 75 or in the South tier of lots numbered from 1 to 54# upon payment by such person into the treasury= of the City of Five Dollars cash and upon such person paying the necessary costs of eseouting said deed# but in no case shall more than one lot be conveyed to any person unless there is no more room for the burial of bodies in the first lot con- veyed to such person. Section 4. The money received on the sale of lots as provided in the next preceding section shall be kept in a fund to be known as The Oak Hill Oemetery Bund# and shall be set aside and used only for the care and improvement of said ground# and shall be expended only upon the order of the City Council. Section 5. The two tiers of strips of land on the lest end of said 4* acres and as shown on said plat and each tier being numbered from 1 to 4 is hereby not aside as a burial ground for the bodies of deceased persons of African descent who own no lot and whose people are too poor to buy such lot. The bodies buried in such strips shall be buried therin in regular order# as followss the first grave shall be in the South and of strip No. 1 of the South tier, and the next grave shall be placed as close to the first as can conveniently be done until said strip is full and then the other strips in the South tier shall be filled in numerical order in the same scanner# and then the strips in the North tier shall be used in numerical order in the same way. Section 6. At the regular meeting of the City Council in Mays 1906 and every two years thereafter the Mayor, by and with the advice and consent of the Council shall appoint a committee of five reputable negroes residing in this City# whose duty it shall be to namages control# and care for said ground herein set apart for the burial of persons of African descent# and to supervise the burial of bodies therein and such com- mittee shall perform such other duties as may be directed by the Council frost time to time. Section 7. A strip of land Twenty-four feet wide and ad- joining the 4* acre tract hereinbefore mentioned on the West is hereby set aside as a burial place for the bodies of deceased :'j
