ORDINANCE SUBMITTING CHARTER TO THE VOTERS FOR ADOPTION OR REJECTION
AN ORDINANCESUBMITTING THE PROPOSED HOME -RULE CHARTER TO THE QU,AZ-
IFIED VOTERS OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY" OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS:
That, whereas, the Charter commission heretofore appointed by the
Mayor of the City of Georgetown, and elected voters, have submitted
a proposed home -rule charter for said city, to the city council,
and have fixed the date for the submission of said proposed home -
rule Charter to the qualified voters of said City oft April 49 1970*
and have determined that it is not practical to submit the Charter
by section, but as one question to the voters.
Therefore, be it ordained by the City of Georgetown, that in compliance
with the date fixed by the Charter_ Commission, and under and by the
virtue of the Home Rule Amendment to the Constitution and the enabling
Statute of Texas, 1925, that an election be held. on April 4P 1970,
in said City for the purpose of having the qualified voters pass on
said proposed Charter, and that at said election there be submitted
to the qualified voters of said City the proposition: Shall the charter
framed by the Charter Commission and completed on February 9, 1970,
be adopted? The official ballot shall read as follows:
OFFICIAL BALLOT
DIRECTIONS: To vote for the adoption of the charter mark out the
word AGAINST: to vote against the adoption mark out the word FOR.
QUESTION: Shall the charter framed by the charter commission be adopted?
WFor the adoption of the charter.
Against the adoption of the charter.
Mrs. R. D. Riggsand Mrs. J. H. Montgomery are appointed judges of
the election and Mrs. Tom C. McAferty and Mrs. N. R. Landry are appoint-
ed clerks of said election. Said election shall be 'held at the City
Fire Station, in the City of Georgetown, between the hours of 8:00 a.m.
and 7:00 p.m., on aid date of April 4, 1970. Said election shall be
governed by the election laws of the State of Texas, and all qualified
voters residing in the City shall be entitled to participate therein.
Said election officers shall make their return of the result of said
election to the City Coun.dil, shoving the total vote affirmative, vote
on said proposed charter, and the negative vote thereon, together with
the Tally Sheet and Poll List, prior to the April 13, 1970meetingof
the Council of the City.
Be it further ordained that a copy of this order of election, duly
certified by the City Secretary* shall constitute notice of election,
and same shall be published for the time and in the manner required
by lacy.
Be it further ordained that 30 days prior to said election, the City
Secretary shall mail to each qualified voter of the City, a copy of
said proposed Charter.
Since there is no sufficient and. adequate Charter for the City of
Georgetown,and since the lace creates a public necessity and emergency
