HomeMy WebLinkAbout0049_75-12 1975ORDINANCE # AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING A DISTRICT OF HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE AND PERMITTING THE DESIGNATION OF FUTURE HISTORICAL DISTRICTS OR SITES, PROVIDING CRITERIA USED IN 'THE DETERMINING OF FUTURE HISTORICAL DISTRICTS OR SITES, REQUIRING PERMITS FOR ANY EXTERNAL ALTERATIONS OR REPAIRS IN ANY MANNER WHATSOEVER, ESTABLISHING A HISTORICAL PRESERVATION COMMITTEE, PREREQUISITES FOR MEMBERSHIP THEREON, APPOINTMENT THEREOF, TERM OF APPOINTMENT, MANDATORY RESPONSE TIME FOR COMMITTEE ACTION, RIGHT OF APPEAL ON COMMITTEE AC'T'ION, A PENALTY CLAUSE AND PROVIDING FOR PUB- LICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Texas has enacted Article 1011a, Vernon's Annotated Civil Statutes empowering cities of the: State of Texas to adopt regulations and restrictions for the preservation and protec- tion of historical places and areas' of historical and cultural importance and significance, and WHEREAS, the City Council of Georgetown is aware that the City of Georgetown has numerous areas, places, buildings, and structures having significant historical value which reflect the heritage of the City, the State, and its people, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS Section I The City of Georgetown, Texas, shall have this, the following ordinance, added to the City Zoning Ordinances.. Section IP. (a) Definition. The terms "historical district" or "historical site" shall mean any site, district, area, building or structure of historical, archaeological or cultural importance or value which the City Council determines shall be protected, preserved or enhanced in the interest of culture, prosperity, education, and welfare of the people.
