HomeMy WebLinkAbout0030_85-07 1985R85-07 R85-07 RESOLUTION: TRAFFIC, SAFETY AND PARKING COMMITTEE RESLOVED: A Standing Committee on Traffic, Parking and Saftey is hereby established to advise the City Council of Georgetown regarding changes in or additions to city policies and ordinances needed to provide for the efficient and safe use of City streets, alleys and thouroughfares by vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Areas of concern shall include traffic flow; traffic control; safety of drivers, riders and pedstrians; and parking. It shall be concerned with current conditions and both short and long range planning: and shall coordinate its study and delibrations with the city staff (especially in the police, fire, public works and planning departments) and with such other agencies and groups as the County Commissioners, the School District, State Highway Department, Chamber of Commerce, merchants associations and developers of commercial and residential property. This committee shall act as a board of approval for requests for changes in loading zones, handicapped parking spaces, special reserved parking spaces and shall work with city staff in amking recommendations for changes in ordiances invloving traffic, parking and safety. The Committee on Traffic, Parking and Safety shall have eleven (11) members, of who not more than two may be residents of the E.T.J. Membership on the committee should be broadly representative of persons living in different parts of town who make frequent but different uses (commuting, shopping, school attendance, deliveries, etc.) of the traffic arteries and feeders; as well as local merchants. The members shall serve three-year staggered terms and may serve no more than two consecutive terms. Committee members shall be recommedded by the Mayor and approved by a majority vote of the Council. The Committee may report and make recommendations to the Council as needed. It shall report at least once a year in the month of May, so that any recommendations which might affect the annual budget may be considered.
