R85-08 **A RESOLUTION establishing a Standing (ommittee on Parks & Recreation
Whereas land presently dedicated to park and recreational use has helped
make Georgetown a desirable place to live and raise a family, but will
soon be inadequate for a rapidly growing population; and
Whereas carefully coordinated operation is needed now to provide efficient
and economical use of present space accommodating all the varied needs
of different age groups, neighborhoods, and sports and recreational
groups, and
Whereas rapid development in and around the City is preempting space pre-,
viously used for recreation, but needed for parks and recreation in
the future, and
Whereas identificaLion of such areas now will permit their acquisition at no
cost or minimal cost to the taxpayers, and
Whereas there is now no one City committee or other body to advise the
Council regarding plans for and oversight of such diverse areas and
such varied uses
Therefore Be It Resolved by the Georgetown City Council this .2 j day
of 19845 that a Standing Committee on Parks and
Recreation be and is hereby established (replacing separate past
committees on Parks and on Recreation) to advise the Council; and that
it shall have the following scope, functions, and organization
Scope The committee shall be concerned with all land owned or
operated by the City, or operated for or in cooperation with the City
which is used for organized and unorganized sports, physical fitness
activities, recreation for all age groups, enjoyment of and education
about nature, and related activities
