HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_CVB_08.09.2018Minutes of Meeting of the Convention & Visitor Bureau Board City of Georgetown, Texas August 9, 201 The mission of the Georgetown Convention and Visitors Bureau is to increase the economic impact on Georgetown by promoting the community as a tourist and meeting destination. The Convention & Visitor Bureau Board met on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 8:30 am at Convention and Visitors Bureau Office, located at 103 W. 7t' Street, Georgetown, Texas. MEMBERS PRESENT: Stephanie Blanck, Rachel Cummins, Rita Healy, Georgene Richaud, Al Shankkle, Tauyna Vessels, Jim Wilson MEMBERS ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: Carl Miller, Marcy Renneberg GUEST: Sam McCutchen, Kevin Stuckley, Kim McAuliffe, Conchita Gusman, Barry Williamson, Kathy Grazinskas Regular Session 1. Chair Richaud called the meeting to order at 8:32 a.m. Legislative Regular Session 2. Discussion and possible action regarding approval of the June 14, 2018 minutes—Georgene Richaud Motion by Healy, second by Wilson to approve the June 14, 2018 minutes. Approved 7-0 3. Presentation regarding the goals of the Workforce Development Alliance Committee — Conchita Gusman, Economic Development Program Manager Gusman distributed a handout regarding the history and intent of the Workforce Development Alliance Committee. The Alliance emerged out of the 2009 Chamber of Commerce GTSet4Success Initiative. The purpose of the Alliance was to align the curriculum in the schools with the needs in the workforce; as well as provide job opportunities for the youth. The Manufacturing Alliance is up and running. The Workforce Development Alliance Committee is currently developing a Health Care Alliance as well as potentially partnering with the CVB to develop a Hospitality program. Continued discussion will be on future agendas. 8/9/18 1 4. UIL State Soccer 'Tournament Hotel Occupancy Tax Grant Follow -Up Report Presentation - Kevin Stuckley, Booster Club President and Sam McCutchen, Lady Eagles Coach Stuckley presented the follow-up report. Stuckley will provide Muller with a contact at the U.I.L. to discuss Georgetown hotel usage during the tournament. No action was taken. 5. GHS Mien's and Women's Annual Governor's Cup Soccer Tournament Hotel Occupancy Tax Grant Follow -Up Report Presentation - Kevin Stuckley, Booster Club President and Sam McCutchen, Lady Eagles Coach Stuckley presented the follow-up report. No action was taken. 6. 'Texas Bach Festival Hotel Occupancy Tax Grant Follow -Up Report Presentation - Barry Williamson - Conductor and Kathy Grazinskas - Board of'Directors Williamson and Grazinskas presented the follow-up report. The event Playbill was distributed to the Board. After much discussion, the Board requested 'Williamson and Granzinskas survey the participants to determine the impact on local hotels. No action was taken. 7. Texas Ralf Century Club hotel Occupancy Tax Grant Follow -Up Report Presentation - Cari Miller, Tourism Manager Miller presented the follow-up report. No action was taken. 8. Discussion and possible action to approve a Motel Occupancy Tax Reimbursement Grant for the Georgetown Cyclocross Festival - Cari Miller, Tourism Manager The Georgetown Cyclocorss Festival grant application was discussed and reviewed along with past requests. Motion by Blanck, second by Vessels to approve the application for $1,500. Approved 6-0. (Nilson left prior to this item) 9. Discussion and possible action regarding the Georgetown Hospitality Training Program - Cari Miller, Tourism Manager and Marcy Renneberg Renneberg presented information regarding the Keeping Georgetown Friendly - Destination Training. The training will be approximately 2 hours. Driving tour will include the following: o Historic downtown (library, museum, courthouse, Art Center, Palace) 8/9/18 2 o Parks and Nature (Blue Hole, Garry Park, San Gabriel Park, Lake Georgetown, Inner Space Cavern, Hike and Bike trails) Manual and Curriculum would include: o Welcome Letter o List of Attractions o List of Events o Dining Options/Restaurants o Lodging o Georgetown Health Care Services o Quick Reference Contacts o Overview of Hospitality Habits o Frequently Asked Questions o Certificate of Completion o Survey It was recommended that the CVS Board be a "test group" for the curriculum in the near future. No action was taken. 10. Discussion and possible action regarding advertising and media exposure and dates of upcoming events- Cari Miller, Tourism Manager Miller presented the CVB Q2 Performance Measures. No action taken.
