HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_CVB_09.13.2018Minutes of Meeting of the Convention & Visitor Bureau Board City of Georgetown, Texas September 13, 2018 The mission of the Georgetown Convention and Visitors Bureau is to increase the economic impact on Georgetown by promoting the community as a tourist and meeting destination. MEMBERS PRESENT: Stephanie Blanck, Rachel Cummins, Georgene Richaud, Al Shankkle, Tauyna Vessels, Jim Wilson MEMBERS ABSENT: Rita Healy STAFF PRESENT: Cari Miller, Susan Watkins, Marie Woodard GUEST: Milton Van Dusen Regular Session 1. Chair Richaud called the meeting to order at 8:38 a.m. Legislative Regular Session 2. Discussion and possible action regarding approval of the August 9, 2018 minutes—Georgene Richaud Motion by Wilson, second by Vessels to approve the August 9, 2018 minutes Approved 5-0 (Cummins arrived after the vote) 3. Discussion and possible action regarding the Georgetown Area Junior Forum (GAJF) request for Transportation Grant for the Texas Junior Forums, Inc. Retreat— Cari Miller, Tourism Manager and Marie Woodard, Group Sales and Servicing Coordinator This is the first request since the grant was implemented; therefore, much discussion was held regarding how to evaluate the request and amount awarded. Blanck, President of GAJF, presented the request and answered questions. Blank recused herself from the vote. Motion by Vessels, second by Wilson to approve the grant request in the amount of $800. Approved 5-0 (Blanck abstained) 4. Discussion and possible action regarding the Texas A&M Master Naturalist Annual Conference Transportation Great - Cari Miller, Tourism Manager and Marie Woodard, Group Sales and Servicing Coordinator After a review of the application and discussion the following motion was made. Motion by Blanck, second by Vessels to approve the grant request in the amount of $2,500 Approved 6-0 9/13/18 5. Discussion and possible action to approve a Hotel Occupancy Tax Reimbursement Grant for the Jack Frost Basketball Tournament - Cari Miller, Tourism Manager Van Dusen presented the grant application. After discussion, the following motion was made. Motion by Wilson, second by Vessels to approve the grant request in the amount of $2,000 Approved 6-0 6. Discussion and possible action regarding advertising and media exposure and dates of upcoming events - Cari Miller, Tourism Manager and Susan Watkins Watkins explained the 2030 Comprehensive Plan and the Open Table concept for gathering information from citizens. Best of Georgetown nominations were completed and voting is continuing through the month of September. The awards will be presented on November 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center. Red Poppy Festival call for art was sent out, this will the 20th Anniversary. Packet was reviewed and questions answered regarding advertising and media exposure.
