P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, Archives Month in Texas aims to celebrate the value of Texas’ historical records, to
publicize the many ways these records enrich our lives, to recognize those who maintain our community’s
historical records, and to increase public awareness of the importance of preserving historical treasures and
making them available for use by present and future generations; and
WHEREAS, archivists bring the past to the present; they are records collectors and protectors,
keepers of memory. They organize unique, historical materials, making them available for current and future
research; and
WHEREAS, archivists acquire, manage, preserve and help patrons identify and use historically
significant collections of unique materials, such as government records, manuscripts, photographs, films and
audio recordings; and
WHEREAS, archivists play a key role in ensuring that the digital records being created today will be
accessible when needed in the future; and
WHEREAS, archival records are essential to support the City of Georgetown’s demand for
accountability and transparency in government; and
WHEREAS, Texas Archives Month is a time to focus on the importance of records of enduring value
and to enhance public recognition for the people and programs that are responsible for maintaining our
community’s vital historical records.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, do
hereby proclaim October as
TEXAS ARCHIVES MONTH
