HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_COA_04.15.2019Minutes of the Georgetown Commission on Aging City of Georgetown, Texas April 15, 2019 The City of Georgetown Commission on Aging met on April 15, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Public Safety Facility, located at 3500 DB Wood Road, Georgetown, TX 78633. The City of Georgetown is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Regular Session (This Regular session may, at any time, be recessed to convene an Executive Session for any purpose authorized by the Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551.) A. Call to Order - Past Vice -Chair, Ginny Hahn, called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. Seven Board members were present, with Jerry Nicklen absent, thus constituting a quorum (Tiffany Enos resigned in March 2019, to date have not filled that position). Also present were Fire Chief John Sullivan, Staff Support to the Commission, and Linda White, Administrative Assistant, Staff Liaison support to the Commission. B. Discuss chair, vice -chair, secretary and open member position on Commission on Aging — Linda White, Administrative Assistant, Staff Liaison support to the Commission. Linda gave an overview of the office positions on the Commission and that members who had been nominated to serve as Chair, each had declined to serve as Chair. Linda shared that Tiffany Enos has resigned due to her mother's medical condition. Legislative Regular Agenda C. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes of the meeting held on March 18, 2019 — Ginny Hahn, Past Vice -Chair. George Lourigan moved to approve the minutes from the meeting held on March 18, 2019. Beverly Stehle seconded the motion, which the Board approved unanimously. (7-0) D. Discussion and possible action for an Age -Friendly Community Designation for the City of Georgetown — Sharon Covey, Commission on Aging. Sharon explained to our newest members how the Commission became interested in an Age -Friendly Community Designation for the City of Georgetown. Discussion occurred. The Commission discussed the idea of creating a committee to gather and process information, meet with the Georgetown City Manager, prepare a report/presentation in hopes of presenting to City Council. E. Overview and discussion of the "Vibrant Living! A Senior Empowerment Event" held on April 9, 2019 — Virginia Lazenby, Commission on Aging. Virginia shared the success of the event. Another event for next spring is now being planned. Commission on Aging April 15, 2019 F. Discussion and possible action of Priority Initiatives — Communication, Transportation, Dental Care, Affordable Housing, Mental Health, Legal Aid — Ginny Hahn, Past Vice -Chair. Ginny and Commission explained the Priority Initiatives to the new members. The Commission is to take into consideration the current initiatives, whether or not to continue with six, delete any, add additional initiatives, how to go about gathering information on the initiatives, sustaining the initiatives, how these can benefit the City. This item will be discuss during the May meeting. G. Discussion of future agendas and priorities — Ginny Hahn, Past Vice -Chair. The May agenda will include items electing a Vice -Chair and a Secretary. If there is a newly appointed Commission member, the new member will be introduced to the Commission. Adjournment The next Commission meeting will be Monday, May 20, 2019 at 6:00 p.m., at the Public Safety Facility, 3500 DB Wood Road, Georgetown, Texas. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m. on a motion by Dennis Dalrymple, seconded by George Nicklen, which the Board approved unanimously.
