HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_COA_09.16.2019Minutes of the Georgetown Commission on Aging City of Georgetown, Texas September 16, 2019 The City of Georgetown Commission on Aging met on September 16, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Public Safety Facility, located at 3500 DB Wood Road, Georgetown, TX 78633. The City of Georgetown is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Regular Session (This Regular session may, at any time, be recessed to convene an Executive Session for any purpose authorized by the Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551.) A. Call to Order — Acting Chair, George Lourigan, called the meeting to order at 6:04 p.m. Commission members George Lourigan, Terri Michelle, Kathleen Hopkins, Susan Wells and Jerry Nicklen were present, with Ginny Hahn, Sharon Covey and Cass Wheeler absent, thus constituting a quorum (one position remaining vacant). Also present was Linda White, Administrative Assistant, Staff Liaison support to the Commission, Fire Chief John Sullivan, Staff Support to the Commission. B. Introduction of current and newly appointed Board member— newly appointed member, Susan Wells, was introduced to the Commission. Legislative Regular Agenda C. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes of the meeting held on August 19, 2019 — George Lourigan, Acting Chair. Kathleen Hopkins made a motion to approve the minutes from the meeting held on August 19, 2019. Terri Michelle seconded the motion, which the Commission was unanimous in approving the August 19, 2019 minutes. (5-0). D. Presentation and discussion regarding services CAPCOG provides to seniors and its interest in Georgetown — Patty Bordie, MPA, Director, Aging Services, CAPCOG. Mrs. Bordie shared that the Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area provides quality services to support and advocate for the health, safety, and well-being of the older individuals in the Region. The CAPCOG serves 10-counties in the central Texas area. Mrs. Bordie shared and discussed additional information regarding the services provided by CAPCOG. Discussion occurred. E. Discussion of future agendas and priorities — George Lourigan, Acting Chair. Jenna McGurk, Quality Improvement/Compliance Coordinator, Georgetown Fire Services will give a review of emergency medical services in Georgetown at the October meeting. Patrick Lloyd, Community Resource Coordinator, who partners with area nonprofit organization to serve seniors, residents with limited mobility, and low income families to guide residents to needed services will present at the November meeting. The Commission expressed an interest in inviting quests to come present to the Commission from Meals on Wheels, Bluebonnet Trail, Faith in Action, and pet store/animal shelter staff speaking on care of pets and how to help seniors to better care for their pets. Commission on Aging September 16, 2019 Adjournment The next Commission meeting will be Monday, October 21, 2019 at 6:00 p.m., at the Public Safety Facility, 3500 DB Wood Road, Georgetown, Texas. The meeting adjourned at 7:23 p.m. on a motion by Terri Michelle, seconded by Kathleen Hopkins, which the Board approved unanimously.
