Convention & Visitor Bureau Board

September 12, 2019
The mission of the Georgetown Convention and Visitors Bureau is to increase the economic impact on
Georgetown by promoting the community as a tourist and meeting destination.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Rachel Cummins, Rita Healy, Daniel Orozco, Jim Wilson,
Stephanie Blanck, Christy Fisher, Karen Soeffker
MEMBERS ABSENT: None
STAFF PRESENT: Cari Miller, Marie Woodard, Amanda Still
GUEST: Kevin Stuckly, Tim Peters, Dwight D. Edman, Kathy Grazinskas,
Barry Williamson
Chair Healy called the meeting to order at 8:31 a.m.
Legislative Regular Session
1. Discussion and possible action regarding approval of the August 22 minutes - Rita Healy,
CVB Board Chair
Motion by Orozco, second by Cummins to approve the August 22, 2019 minutes
Approved 4-0 (Blanck, Fisher, Soeffker abstain for they were not present at the meeting)
2. Texas Bach Festival Hotel Occupancy Tax Grant Follow-up Report Presentation CVB
Strategic Plan Draft Presentation — Cari Miller, Tourism Manager
Williamson and Grazinskas presented the follow-up report.
No action was taken.
3. UIL State Soccer Tournament Hotel Occupancy Tax Grant Follow-up Report Presentation —
Cari Miller, Tourism Manager
Stuckly and Peters presented the follow-up report. Stuckly announced that the UIL entered
into another two year contract with GISD for the state tournament.
No action was taken.
4. GHS Men's and Women's Annual Governor's Cup Tournament Hotel Occupancy Tax Grant
Follow-up Report Presentation
Stuckly and Peters presented the follow-up report.
No action was taken.
5. Discussion and possible action to approve Transportation Grant for Texas Association for
Marriage & Family Therapy Conference — Cari Miller, Tourism Manager and Marie
Woodard, Groups Sales and Servicing Coordinator
Item pulled from the agenda.
The application was reviewed for this special request to allow the grant to be used for
transportation to the State Capitol. The conference is in February 2020, a generally low
occupancy time.
Motion by Orozco, second by Wilson to approve the grant for a maximum of $2,500 and
allow funds to be used for transportation to the State Capitol for one day.
Approved 6-0 (Healy abstained)
6. Discussion and possible action to approve Transportation Grant for Q2 Banking Conference
— Cari Miller, Tourism Manager and Marie Woodard, Groups Sales and Servicing
Coordinator
The application was reviewed for this special request to allow the grant funds to be used for
daily transportation to Q2 offices in north Austin. The conference is in January 2021, a
generally low occupancy time.
Motion by Fisher, second by Cummins to approve the grant for a maximum of $2,500 and to
allow funds to be used for transportation to the Q2 offices in north Austin.
Approved 6-0 (Healy abstained)
7. CVB Strategic Plan Update
The CVB Strategic Plan was sent electronically to all Board members. The Plan will be
presented to the City Council on September 24 at 3:00 p.m. All are encouraged to attend.
No action was taken.
8. 2019 Red Poppy Festival Economic Impact Study — Cari Miller, Tourism Manager
The Red Poppy Festival Economic Impact Study was sent electronically to all Board
members for review. After discussion, the Board decided to add this item to a future agenda
to allow the Board additional time to review. Several changes will be made to future
Festivals based on the comments/recommendations. Miller announced that the Red Poppy
Festival is a finalist for the Texas Downtown Association's Best Promotional Event for cities
over 50,000. Winners will be announced October 30 at the State Conference being held in
Georgetown.
No action was taken.
9. Discussion and possible action regarding advertising and media exposure and dates of
upcoming events - Cari Miller, Tourism Manager
Best of Georgetown contest is September 1 — 30. Winners will be announced on Monday,
November 4 at 6:00 p.m. at the Sheraton.
US Capitol Christmas Tree will make a stop in Georgetown on Sunday, November 17.
DGA representatives will attend the October 10 meeting
