GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
Library Board `Meeting: Nov.7, 1989, 12b00 noon
Memebers present: Nancy Snead, Nancy Benold, Robert Horick, Mar)/.
Beth Huba, Jean-Marie Mendezp Dorian Sullivan, Marjorie Youngman*
& Judy Duer
OLD BUSINESS:
1. -The minutes of the Oct.3,"81 meeting were approved as read.
(Moved by N.Benold, 2nd by D.Sullivan) -_
2. N.Snead had not yet had a meeting with the sales rep. for the
security cameras, as the rep, had been sick, but had an
appointment to meet with him later in the weeK She is hoping
that we will be able to get by with only 2 cameras.
R.Horrick also suggested looking into ultra -sonic 'sen'brs which
would turn on lights in the courtyard when tripped, Which may be
.an alternative if the cameras don't work out. '
- ,
3. R.Horrick indicated that we could obtain 2 microcomputers with
1 printer for approximateky $5,000 if either IBM compatibles or
Macintosh computers were puechased, but that IBM computers would
excced this cost. (These are the computers for public use.)
In addition, we would have to acquire some type of software,
and keep it up-to-date. Some type of desk -top publishing software
would probably be most useful.' . .
We decided to take a public survey, using newspapers, the
Chamber, and other sources, to determine what the public perceives
as a use before making an acquistion.
Note: Dorian left at 12:45, but we still had a quorum.
4. Westill have approxiamtely $5,000 left of the Bond money after
making the last compOter payment. We need to determine a use for
this money, such as furnitwre, shelves, or books.
Also we should consider establishing a d t ith th , g n en owmn w e
Board's C.D. money.
Finally, the "Friends" still have some money. We should
consider a kick-off reception with this money to start-up the
Friends -of the Library again. We may want to stress the need for
a program for Friends, and that small, on -going projects, such as -
the display shelves in the Library, could be done by.theFriends
as well as larger projects. Thre is even a movie availaAle on
organizing, the group, which Marjorie is looking~ into.
