Meeting Minutes
December 9, 2020
The Animal Shelter Advisory Board met virtually Thursday, December 9, 2020.
Regular Session — To begin no earlier than 6:OOpm.
(This Regular Session may, at any time, be recessed to convene at Executive Session for any purpose authorized
by the Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551).

Meeting called to order at 6:01 PM by Melissa Sheldon
I. Discussion on how this virtual conference will be conducted, to include options for public comments
and how the public may address the Commission — April Haughey (Board Liaison)
a. April detailed the ways the public can engage with the meeting, told members that roll call votes
would be conducted, and instructed members to "raise their hand" to speak and to identify
themselves first.
2. Presentation of Animal Services Statistics for November 2020 — April Haughey, Animal Services
Manager (Board Liaison)
a. 143 intakes in November included 88 dogs, 25 of which were confiscated from one household.
b. 97.1% live release rate for November. Included on puppy tossed in a dumpster that had to be
euthanized. No video was available at the location.
c. 22% return to owner.
d. License compliance up to 63.3%
e. 284 ACO calls; 26 warnings and 105 violations. 97 impounds.
3. Discussion on November 24th and December 8th presentation of ordinance changes to City Council
— April Haughey, Animal Services Manager (Board Liaison)
a. The ordinance changes were unanimously passed. Animal Control will draft a letter to inform
affected breeders and others of the changes.
b. Council raised a question about whether Animal Services will be addressing the deer population
issues within the city. Animal Services will investigate options.
4. Presentation of results from the Donation Drive -Through event sponsored by Friends of the
Georgetown Animal Shelter — April Haughey, Animal Services Manager (Board Liaison)
a. The fundraising events for November were very successful. Donation Drive -Through event raised
$2204.60. Giving Tuesday Facebook donations were $240 and online donations to the shelter
increased for the month. The pet pantry was completely restocked and Amazon Wish List donations
are arriving daily.
5. Presentation of Animal Control seizure warrant and hearing— April Haughey, Animal Services
Manager (Board Liaison)
a. Thanks to an alert and cooperative neighbor, after several years of issues and Animal Control
involvement with a particular household's dogs, Animal Services obtained a seizure warrant and
was finally able to negotiate with the owner the voluntary surrender of 24 dogs and 2 cats to Animal
Services. None of the dogs are house-trained.
6. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes from November 2020 Melissa Sheldon, Board
Chair
a. Minutes were read by members. Motion to approve, Ned Atkins. Seconded, Bill Gregory.
Approved unanimously.
With no further business or discussion, Laura Klein Plunkett made a motion to adjourn. Bill Gregory seconded.
