The City of Georgetown Civil Service Commission will meet on September 8, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.
Teleconference.
In attendance were: Commissioners Gordan Pierce, Luis Zamot & John Philpott; Tadd Phillips, Mike
Watson, John Sullivan, Jeff Davis, Clay Shell, Robyn Iverson, Multiple Fire Personnel
Call to Order at 10:15 AM
Regular Session
(This Regular session may, at any time, be recessed to convene an Executive Session for any purpose
authorized by the Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551).
A. Consideration and possible approval of minutes from June 17, 2020 meeting.
a. Motion to approve by Commissioner John Philpott, 2nd Commissioner Gordon Pierce, 3-0
B. Introduction of Mike Watson.
a. Introduction of Mike Watson in Human Resources
C. Consideration to designate Mike Watson as Deputy Civil Service Director.
a. Motion to designate Mike Watson as Deputy Civil Service Director by Commissioner
Gordon Pierce, 2nd by Commissioner John Philpott, 3-0
D. Discussion and possible action on submitted Deputy Fire Marshal Promotional Examination.
a. Appeal #7 Sustain Key – 3-0
b. Appeal #16 Sustain Key – 3-0
c. Appeal #20 Sustain Key – 3-0
d. Appeal #23 Sustain Key – 3-0
e. Appeal #59 Sustain Key – 3-0

E. Consideration and possible action to approve and certify Deputy Fire Marshal Promotional
Eligibility List.
a. Motion to approve by Commissioner Gordon Pierce, 2nd Commissioner John Philpott, 3-0
F. Update to Commission related to Civil Service items by Civil Service Director.
a. Tadd Phillips discussed the way ahead for meetings over the next couple of months
b. First reading of the Strength of Force Ordinance for next fiscal year would be held on
September 8, 2020 during City Council Meeting
c. Updated Commissioners that there would be three (3) new Police Officer hires and seven (7)
new Firefighter hires in September 2020
d. Discussed that there would be a promotional exam for the Police department for a Police
Sergeant
e. Discussed that there would be a promotional exam for the Fire department for a Paramedic II,
Driver, Lieutenant, and Captain
f. Starting new recruitment process for the Police and Fire departments
g. Discussion about the hiring process elements for polygraphs
h. Acknowledged Robyn Iverson help with the Civil Service examinations and recruiting
process
i. Updated the Commissioners on the status of Station 6 and Station 7
