HomeMy WebLinkAboutRap-A-Round Newsletter 07.30.1993The P,AP-A-ROUND Volume V, July 30, 1993 FROM THE HART I am very pleased to be able to report encouraging news on the status of our health insurance for next fiscal year. The details are still being finalized, but I can definitely report that we will be staying with Prudential next year, and you will have the same options you currently do: either the Pru-Plus PPO or the Pru-Care HMO. No one will have to change doctors unless they want to. Prudential had requested a large rate increase of 25 % (just to give you an idea of what that means, the total premium for family coverage would have been almost $500 per month). However, we know how important it was to employees not to have to switch to another company, so we bargained very hard with them, even talking with other companies to determine what their rates would be, in order to increase the pressure on Prudential. As a compromise, we have agreed tb'a 7 % rate increase. The new agreement does include some modifications to the existing plan. For example, we will still have the prescription drug plan, but, there will no longer be a lower rate for generics. Even though there will be a deductible for out -of -network hospital use, in -network is still provided without a deductible. The final modification, which is still being negotiated, will be a limited co -pay on hospitalization. Even so, the plan remains essentially the same in that office visits will still cost only $10, and in -network services will still be covered 100 % . Georgetown I do not yet have complete details on the plan modifications, or on the exact dollar amounts the City and employee will pay for premiums, but those will be available at the time of open enrollment. I do know the most important facts: the City will continue to offer the best benefits around, and I appreciate the efforts of staff to aggressively fight for the best interests of City employees. The City and its organization are people and these people have served the City well. We celebrate the following employment anniversaries which occur during the next two weeks: Nineteen Years MIKE MALDANADO Collection Station Eight Years HUGH ANDERSON Police Department Five Years JIM LANDRY Three Years SCOTT WALDEN Public Utilities Administration One Year STEPHANIE CRENSHAW Management Services RAP -A -ROUND 07/30/93 Page 1 INS AND OUTS CUSTOMER SERVICE city of Georgetown Welcome! We're very pleased that JERRY BRUMETT joined the staff of Development Services as the new Building Inspector. Jerry comes to us from Redlands, California with 27 years of experience in the inspection field. He and his wife of 39 years have three children. Everyone come by and meet Jerry when you have a chance! The City is lucky to have MICKI RUNDELL join us as Accounting Director. Micki and her husband, Don, have two sons; James, 11 years and Drew, 15 months. Stop by and introduce yourself when you get a chance. RON COLEMAN came to the City from the University of Texas. He will act as Assistant to the City Manager. Ron is single and enjoys sports, weightlifting and reading. MARK MOSS is the new Fire Captain in charge of Training. Mark and wife Jo have two daughters, Tresa, 20 and Melanie, 11. He moved to Georgetown last summer from Weatherford, where in addition to a career in fire services he helped his father with the family peach farm in rural Parker County. Rhonda Blair ended her tour of duty with the City of Georgetown. We wish her well! Tenley Parr: Tenley was awarded shares for going above and beyond the call of duty to help out a Georgetown resident. She witnessed an elderly woman's dog in shockingly poor health and offered to take the dog to the vet for an exam. This task is not a part of Tenley's assigned duties, but this is what make Georgetown's Animal Shelter so great. Andy Hammack: Andy came to the rescue of the Public Utilities staff when they were called to Austin to receive an award. He answered phone and dispatched, going above and beyond the call of duty. Ray Perez: Ray came to the rescue of a disabled man who was trying to maneuver his wheelchair out of an office. Several people passed the man by offering no assistance, but Ray stopped and asked the gentleman if he needed some help. Ray helped the man from his office and then retrieved a wooden platform so the man could enter Alvin's Sandwich Shop. Minnie King: Minnie is getting a thank you for her time and devotion for making coffee available for all employees in the Municipal Building. She goes above and beyond the call of duty every day emptying ice trays, cleaning the coffee pots and cleaning the kitchen area. Just a little extra work can often make a big difference. Tenley Parr: Tenley observed a fox terrier with tangled and matted hair and considered filing charges on the owner. But, she investigated the situation further and discovered that the owner had been in and out of the hospital lately and was unable to care for her dog. Instead of filing charges, Tenley offered to take the dog in to have the clumps and tangles cut out of its hair. This is wonderful public relations! Betty -Jo Patterson: A citizen wrote in all the way from Illinois to compliment Betty -Jo on her outstanding service. The woman stressed that Betty -Jo was pleasant, courteous and helpful. Betty -Jo must have been pretty great for the woman to have written in from out-of-state. RAP -A -ROUND 07/30/93 Page 2 remodel for the Wesleyan Nursing Home. BULLETIN BOARD Help Wanted...
