D. Discussion on Project Teams, Partner updates, and BRE visits
a. Fundraising — upcoming ornament sale, Main street, simple black and white. Art fundraiser piece
from back in the spring is moving forward. We have an artist that has created a sample piece, we
are trying to get some items to show its samples that we can put in the visitor's center with a QR
code and on website. We want to promote this piece through the month of October because it is
the month of the Arts and right before the holidays. We wanted to do it all online where the
customer could pick what they wanted and order it directly. The online printers only pay out
money to PayPal and the City does not do PayPal. Minute Man Press will do the printing, there
are some minimums. We will take orders then place at the end of the month and have them
before thanksgiving.
b. Breakfast Bites —Aaron we had really good attendance, it was outside. Rachel did a really good
job, she had people engaged and provided fresh new content.
c. Labor Day sidewalk sale - Kate - Friday not many had things outside. Lauren — Friday and
Saturday were really good for her store. Monday was slow. Bobby — we closed for the holiday,
Dave — Friday was pretty good, and Saturday was the best. Monday was slow.
d. Shop Small — first meeting this week. Talked about keeping it a little more simple than in the
past. Not including a game/activity because the games are not really driving people to the event.
Last year we had 18 people participate in the game - would they have come even if we didn't
have the game? Probably. We had people come just for the game and not shop. Looking to
create a tote bag, we are going to get a nice tote bag with Georgetown on it. We are going to
work with a local artist for a "Shop Small" design.
e. Swirl — had first swirl meeting, two new ladies joining, Jenna with City Post and Brittany with
Sweet Lemon, they are both in the event planners for those businesses. We are looking at
setting up an appointment to go talk to Judge Gravel about the use of the courthouse. If not, we
are trying to figure out some logistics. City post is an option. If at City post we will have to cut
back on VIP sales because of amount of attendees allowed. Tossing some ideas around. Theme
is going to be Turquoise and Tulips because that is what's supposed to be given on the 11 th
anniversary and this will be the 11 th anniversary of the swirl.
F. BRE visits — K. McAuliffe we haven't had any, Kate and I are going to go talk to Juliet at
Foundry42. Coreena's is having their 1 year anniversary soon, maybe Lauren could go with Kim.
E. Staff Report — Kim McAuliffe, Downtown Development Manager
Update on the Fagade Grant balance — before the meeting today we had $42,662 in the fund. After the grant award
today, we will now have $42,162.50. Next month we will have a little more money from our general appropriation,
and we will have the money that we raised from the beer crawl.
New developments: Goodfolks is on tract to open really soon. City Post is partially open. Planning to open the full
restaurant next month.
Construction continued with sidewalks and milling and repaving of streets. Street will be closed between 7th street
in-between blue corn and the alley. This will be closed for the week.
Bathroom at Grace Heritage - Signage project, people don't realize these are public restrooms. We are trying to
make it more visible.
New mural on the side of To Have and To Hold, same artist enlarging the current mural
Tuesday September 2V — presenting to Council some parking changes for Downtown with some 15-minute
parking signs changing Rock Street to 3-hour parking and a potential loading zone on Austin Ave. Also going to
council is the South Main Arts District by Grace Heritage the space that is currently parking we are going to make
that into Public Space, we received a Grant to do that project, the project is going to cost about $380,000. We were
told we would get over $100,000 for the grant.
Upcoming events; Popptoberfest October 1-3. 70% of vendors that they normally have to space things out more.
Moving stage from Vh street to 7m street. The stage that is typically over by the food court at 6m and main is coming
over by the exchange.
