Meeting Minutes March 10, 2022
The Animal Shelter Advisory Board met in person Thursday, March 10, 2022
Regular Session — To begin no earlier than 6:00 pm.
(This Regular Session may, at any time, be recessed to convene at Executive Session for any purpose authorized
by the Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551).

Meeting called to order at 6:00 P.M. by Amanda Parr
I. Introduction of board members — Amanda Parr, Board Chair
a. Board members introduced themselves to the group.
2. Election of Vice Chair and Secretary for the Animal Shelter Advisory Board — Amanda Parr, Board
Chair
a. Chad Harris agreed to be the Vice Chair and Laura Klein Plunkett agreed to continue as Secretary.
Motion to accept candidates, Louise Epstein. Seconded by Laura Klein Plunkett. The motion passed
unanimously.
3. Discuss and confirm dates and times for future Animal Shelter Advisory Board meetings — Amanda
Parr, Board Chair
a. The board discussed meeting options. Motion was made by Louise Epstein to conduct board meet-
ings quarterly. Lacking a second, the motion failed. Motion by Chad Harris, seconded by Amanda
Parr, to hold bimonthly meetings, on the second Thursday of the month at 6 PM, with metrics
emailed to the board monthly for review. Motion passed unanimously.
4. Review and discuss board purpose, duties, bylaws, and attendance — April Haughey, Animal Services
Manager (Board Liaison)
a. April reviewed board by-laws and Texas statutes governing shelter operation and board composition
and duties.
5. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes from February 2022 — Amanda Parr, Board
Chair
a. The Board had no corrections or addenda to the minutes as presented. Motion to approve the
minutes, Louise Epstein. Seconded, Amanda Parr. Passed unanimously.
6. Presentation of Animal Services statistics for February 2022 — April Haughey, Animal Services Man-
ager (Board Liaison)
a. There were 70 intakes in February, 61 dogs and 9 cats, plus two rabbits, a guinea pig and a hamster.
April noted that non -dog and -cat surrenders are uncommon, but the shelter will need to standardize
procedures for their care.
b. LRR was 95.2% with 38 adoptions and an RTO of 26%. Length of stay is trending higher.
c. 344 ACO calls with 59 dog -at -large responses and 18 humane investigations.
d. April has streamlined the reporting.
e. Shelter staff totals 14. There is a new kennel tech, vacant vet position, and pending ACO vacancy.
7. Presentation of Animal Services statistics for February 2022 — April Haughey, Animal Services Man-
ager (Board Liaison)
a. Monthly adoption events at Pupology and Wag Heaven have resumed. The shelter will be repre-
sented at the Red Poppy Festival in April.
b. February's Spay/Neuter event had 20 appointments with 16 surgeries. The next S/N event will be
March 26.
c. The shelter participated in Kindness Week at Wagner Middle School, which focused on how kids
can help the shelter and encourage humane treatment of animals in the community.
d. The shelter continues to have a strong social media presence, with many of the most popular posts
featuring shelter alumni.
8. Presentation on Friends of the Georgetown Animal Shelter's participation in Amplify Austin 2022
fundraising efforts and progress of associated facility improvements — April Haughey, Animal Ser-
vices Manager (Board Liaison).
a. The FOGAS participation in Amplify Austin raised $18,010 against a goal of $10,000, compared to
last year's actual of $5,007. There is potential for additional revenue from matching organizations,
so the final total may be higher. April highlighted how the money FOGAS has committed would be
used and noted that the floor grates were ordered on 2/22 and the flooring work had already started
and would be completed this week.
9. With no further business or discussion, Louise Epstein made a motion to adjourn. Motion was seconded by
Laura Klein Plunkett, and approved by all.
