TUESDAY, May 7, 1996
The City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas, will meet in Special Session on Tuesday, May 7, 1996,
at 5:15 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, located at the northeast corner of Seventh and Main Street in
Georgetown, Texas.
Detailed explanatory information on the items listed below is compiled in an agenda packet which is
distributed to the Mayor and each member of the Council. An agenda packet is also available at the Public Library,
for the use of interested citizens. The meeting is open to the public, and If you need accommodations for any type
of disability, please advise in advance.

Lottery drawing to determine length of term for newly elected Councilmembers
ITEM SUMMARY
As provided by the Charter Amendment in 1994, it is necessary that the newly elected Councilmembers
draw for their length of term. One Councilmember will draw a two-year term, and two Councilmembers
will draw three-year terms. Please see the attached copy of Page C-7 of the Georgetown Charter.

CHARTER
(3) In 1997, the two Districts whose Councilmembers serve two-year terms shall elect
Councilmembers for three-year terms. All succeeding elections shall be to elect Councilmembers
for three-year terms in compliance with this Charter.

Sec.2.02. Qualifications.
At the time of election to office, each Councilmember and the Mayor shall beat least twenty-one
(21) years of age, shall be a citizen and qualified voter of the State of Texas and the nt of
Georgetown and a resident of the Council District the member would be representing fora period
of twelve (12) months as of the last legal date for filing. No member of the Council shall hold
any other office or employment under the City Government while a member of said Council, nor
hold any paid employment under the City Government within two (2) years thereafter. A member
of the Council ceasing to reside in the City shall immediately forfeit that office. (Amended b voters

Vacancies in the Council, or in the office of Mayor, arising from any cause shall be filled
by a majority vote of the remaining members for the unexpired term or until the next City general
election, and provided the successor shall possess all qualifications required for the office. Provided
also, that in all cases the said vacancy shall be filled by election at the next succeeding City general
election for the remaining year of the unexpired p term, as the case may
