Process for appointment. This item is presented in order to determine how the City Council wants to proceed in terms of appointment of a Charter Review Committee. 2. Timeline. Consideration should be given to the anticipated City election date that the Council anticipates as a goal for a Charter election. A uniform election date prescribed by State Election Code must be used, and they fall in August, November, January and May each year. The election must be called 45 days in advance of the election date. Time should also be allowed in the process for the draft of proposed Charter language to be reviewed by the City Attorney before calling an election. 3. Charge. Based on the discussion during the workshop item, the Council could choose to select certain items that definitely should be addressed, and could later add additional items after final evaluation from legal counsel is received. ITEM SUMMARY: On May 21, 2001, the Council determined that it desires to appoint an eight -member Redistricting Committee as follows: • City Council member from each district or that member's designated citizen representative residing within his district • Mayor or her designated citizen representative residing with the City limits This committee will work with the City's GIS consultant to develop a new single -member district plan for consideration at public hearings before the City Council in August, 2001.
