Georgetown Commission on Aging
City of Georgetown, Texas
August 20, 2018
The City of Georgetown Commission on Aging met on August 20, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Public Safety
Facility, located at 3500 DB Wood Road, Georgetown, TX 78633.
The City of Georgetown is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). If you require assistance in
participating at a public meeting due to a disability, as defined under the ADA, reasonable assistance, adaptations, or

Regular Session
(This Regular session may, at any time, be recessed to convene an Executive Session for any purpose authorized by the Open
Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551.)
A. Call to Order Chairman Gene Jantzen called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. Seven Board
members were present, with Dan Bonner and Beverly Stehle absent, thus constituting a quorum.
Also present were Fire Chief John Sullivan, Staff Support to the Commission, and Linda White,
Staff Liaison Office Specialist.
Legislative Regular Agenda
B. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes of the meeting held on July 16, 2018 –
Gene Jantzen, Board Chair. Dennis Dalrymple moved to approve the minutes from the meeting
held on July 16, 2018. Tiffany Enos seconded the motion, which the Board approved unanimously.
(7-0)
C. Presentation and discussion of the Merritt Heritage Senior Village – Marcia Lewis,
Community Manager, Merritt Heritage Senior Communities. Ms. Lewis explained that this
village is new construction for 62+ age community, residents who can live independently, and will
open in January/February 2019. There are a total of 244 units; 122 units are tax credit affordable
and 122 units are market rates. Ms. Lewis explained the various costs of the units, amenities that
the village provides, and the application process.
D. Presentation by Community Resources Coordinator at the Georgetown Public Library –
Patrick Lloyd, City of Georgetown Community Resources Coordinator. Patrick gave an
update on the social service needs of library patrons, local resource strengths, and areas for growth.
Discussion occurred.
E. Discussion and possible action on Georgetown Senior Expo – Virginia Lazenby, Commission
on Aging. Virginia gave an update. Discussion occurred.
F. Discussion and possible action for an Age-Friendly Community Designation for the City of
Georgetown – Gene Jantzen, Board Chair. Gene shared he is researching materials published
regarding Age-Friendly Community Designation. Discussion occurred. The Commission and Chief

Sullivan were in agreement to invite an AARP representative to speak to the Commission to explain
what all this program entails, and what steps need to be taken to make this happen here in
Georgetown.
G. Discussion and possible action of Priority Initiatives: Communication, Transportation,
Affordable Dental Care, Affordable Housing, Mental Health, Legal Aid – Gene Jantzen, Board
Chair. Communications – Tiffany Enos asked Patrick to research the possibility of a section on
the Library website to be created for Senior Services information. Transportation – Dennis
Dalrymple shared that Faith in Action is hosting their first Tailgate Trot which is a 1-mile run/walk
5K event, to be held on October 20th, at The Oaks at San Gabriel. All proceeds benefit Faith in
Action.
Ginny Hahn shared that she had met with Nat Waggoner who is with the city’s planning
department, and that they discussed the city’s partnership with Lyft in providing transportation
throughout the city. Mr. Waggoner and Susan Watkins will be on the September agenda to discuss
housing for seniors in Georgetown, and the Commission can inquire about the Lyft program at that
time.
H. Discussion of future agendas and priorities – Gene Jantzen, Board Chair. Scheduled for the
month of September are Josie Zamora with A Gift of Time and Nat Waggoner/Susan Watkins
discussing senior housing. For the future, invite an AARP representative to explain the Age-
Friendly Community Program.
Adjournment
The next Commission meeting will be Monday, September 17, 2018 at 6:00 p.m., at the Public Safety
Facility, 3500 DB Wood Road, Georgetown, Texas.
The meeting adjourned at 7:43 p.m. on a motion by Dennis Dalrymple, seconded by Tiffany Enos, which
the Board approved unanimously. (7-0)
