The City of Georgetown is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). If you require assistance in participating at a public meeting due to a disability, as defined under the ADA, reasonable assistance, adaptations, or accommodations will be provided upon request. Please contact the City Secretary’s Office, at least four (4) days prior to the scheduled meeting date, at (512) 930-3652 or City Hall at 113 East 8th Street for additional information; TTY users route through Relay Texas at 711. Regular Session (This Regular session may, at any time, be recessed to convene an Executive Session for any purpose authorized by the Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551.) A. Call to Order Gene Jantzen, Chairman of the Board, called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Seven Commission members were present, with Commission member Patricia Strickland absent, thus constituting a quorum. Also present was Staff Liaison Fire Chief John Sullivan. Staff Liaison Office Specialist, Linda White, was absent. Statutory Consent Agenda The Statutory Consent Agenda includes non-controversial and routine items that may be acted upon with one single vote. An item may be pulled from the Consent Agenda in order that it be discussed and acted upon individually as part of the Regular Agenda. B. Consideration and possible action to approve the minutes of meetings held on November 21, 2016 – Gene Jantzen, Board Chair. The minutes were approved by unanimous acclamation by the Board. (7- 0) Legislative Regular Agenda The Commission on Aging will individually consider and possible take action on any or all of the following items: C. Introduction of the Georgetown Public Library’s new Community Resources Coordinator, Patrick Lloyd, and discussion concerning how Mr. Lloyd will be able to assist the Commission – Eric Lashley, Director, Georgetown Public Library and Patrick Lloyd, Community Resources Coordinator, Georgetown Public Library. Mr. Lashley introduced Mr. Lloyd. Discussion occurred among the Commission, Mr. Lashley and Mr. Lloyd. All were in agreement for Mr. Lloyd to be added to the Commission agenda on a quarterly basis to provide updates to the Commission. D. Update on fixed route bus system and coordination with other transportation service providers in the City of Georgetown – Nat Waggoner, Transportation Analyst, City of Georgetown and Vickie Orcutt, Executive Director, Faith in Action Georgetown. Nat Waggoner did not attend; however, Vicki Orcutt addressed the issues. Ms. Orcutt shared that City Council has approved moving forward with the fixed route system and that route planning is being finalized. The vital Faith in Action volunteer organization is growing in numbers and still needs more drivers to serve the ever-growing demand. Page 4 of 8 Commission on Aging December 19, 2016 2 E. Status report from each of the Priority Initiatives: Communication, Transportation, Dental Care, Affordable Housing, Mental Health – Board members. No reports were given. F. Discussion of future agendas and priorities – Gene Jantzen, Board Chair. Mr. Jantzen clarified the Commission will not be meeting on January 16, 2017 because the monthly meeting date coincides with the Legal Holiday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. The Commission will meet on February 20, 2017. Tiffany Enos will have a guest speaker at the meeting in February. The consensus of the Commission members is to invite City Council members to attend the monthly meetings and share their concerns for the Commission’s area of responsibility, which is the senior population of Georgetown. Steve Fought, District 4 Council Member, has accepted the Commission’s invitation to speak during the March 20, 2017 meeting. Adjournment The next Board meeting will be Monday, February 20, 2017, at 6:00 p.m., at the Public Safety Facility, 3500 DB Wood Road, Georgetown, Texas. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m. on a motion by Ginny Hahn, seconded by Valerie Nicholson, which the Board approved unanimously.
