The City of Georgetown is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). If you require assistance in participating at a public meeting due to a disability, as defined under the ADA, reasonable assistance, adaptations, or accommodations will be provided upon request. Please contact the City Secretary’s Office, at least four (4) days prior to the scheduled meeting date, at (512) 930-3652 or City Hall at 113 East 8th Street for additional information; TTY users route through Relay Texas at 711. Regular Session (This Regular session may, at any time, be recessed to convene an Executive Session for any purpose authorized by the Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551.) A. Call to Order – Acting Chair, Ginny Hahn, called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. Commission members George Lourigan, Terri Michelle, Kathleen Hopkins, Cass Wheeler, Ginny Hahn and Jerry Nicklen were present, constituting a quorum (one position remaining vacant). Also present was Linda White, Administrative Assistant, Staff Liaison support to the Commission, and Fire Chief John Sullivan, Staff Support to the Commission. Legislative Regular Agenda B. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes of the meeting held on November 18, 2019 – Ginny Hahn, Acting Chair. Terri Michelle moved to approve the minutes from the meeting held on November 18, 2019. Jerry Nicklen seconded the motion, which the Commission approved unanimously. (6-0) C. Presentation and discussion regarding the FY 2020 Home Repair Program – Susan Watkins, AICP, Housing Coordinator. On September 24, 2019, the City Council was briefed on the FY20 Home Repair Program. Included in that presentation was a plan for targeted outreach that included senior homeowners in need of accessibility repairs. Ms. Watkins asked for feedback from the Commission on Aging for outreach to senior homeowners in need of accessibility repairs. Discussion occurred. D. Presentation and discussion regarding the draft 2030 Plan Update – Ms. Watkins explained that the 2030 Comprehensive Plan Update is nearing completion and staff is providing City of Georgetown Boards and Commissions an opportunity to review the full draft plan and ask questions. Ms. Watkins gave a short overview that included goals for Land Use, Williams Drive Gateway Plan, Gateways & Image Corridors, Housing and the Implementation Plan. Discussion occurred. E. Presentation and discussion regarding the development of a program involving clinical research and care of neurodegenerative diseases and the anticipated roles of the Georgetown Community and City in the proposed work – Michael Douglas, PHD, Texas Science Education Foundation. Mr. Douglas explained that some of the clinical study work with the Georgetown community will open unique opportunities to control events that accelerate dementia. The steps that Georgetown could take in working with the different medical institutions would bring Page 8 of 10 Commission on Aging February 17, 2020 2 tremendous health education opportunities, awareness and resources to the residents of Georgetown. Mr. Douglas and Mr. Joe Birdwell wanted to introduce the Commission to the work completed to date and steps that may lay ahead. Mr. Birdwell and his partner are developing, Highland Village, a mixed-use site at Williams and Ronald Regan near Sun City. The vision of this development is one that will contain a medical facility and offices and a place where some medical research and training of professionals including caregiver, training and ser vices would take place. Discussion occurred. F. Update on City Council’s appointments of new members and chair to Commission on aging for new terms beginning March 1, 2020 – Ginny Hahn, COA, Past Vice-Chair. Ms. Hahn shared with the Commission the names of the newest members approved by City Council during their council meeting on February 11, 2020. Ms. Hahn also shared that City Council approved appointment of George Lourigan to serve as Chairman. G. Discussion of future agendas and priorities – a short discussion occurred Adjournment The next Commission meeting will be Monday, March 16, 2020 at 6:00 p.m., at the Public Safety Facility, 3500 DB Wood Road, Georgetown, Texas. The meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m. on a motion by Cass Wheeler, seconded by Jerry Nicklen, which the Board approved unanimously.
