Georgetown Commission on Aging
City of Georgetown, Texas
May 15, 2017
The City of Georgetown Commission on Aging met on May 15, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Public Safety
Facility, located at 3500 DB Wood Road, Georgetown, TX 78633.
The City of Georgetown is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). If you require assistance in
participating at a public meeting due to a disability, as defined under the ADA, reasonable assistance, adaptations, or

Regular Session
(This Regular session may, at any time, be recessed to convene an Executive Session for any purpose authorized by the Open
Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551.)
A. Call to Order
Chairman Gene Jantzen called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Eight Board members were present,
with Board member Valerie Nicholson absent (due to being newly elected to Georgetown City
Council during the May 2, 2017 general election), thus constituting a quorum. Also present were
Support Staff Liaison Fire Chief John Sullivan and Staff Liaison Office Specialist Linda White.
Statutory Consent Agenda
B. Consideration and possible action to approve the minutes of the meeting held on April 17,
2017. Bernie Farkas moved to approve the minutes from the meeting held on April 17, 2017.
Virginia Lazenby seconded the motion, which the Board approved unanimously. (8-0)
Legislative Regular Agenda
C. Presentation and discussion of ideas for priority needs of senior residents living in the City of
Georgetown – Ty Gipson, Georgetown City Council, District 5. Chairman Jantzen introduced
Council member Ty Gipson. Councilman Gipson shared the following as his areas of interest for
the senior residents of Georgetown: outreach information readily available to the senior citizens;
affordable housing; connectivity of the senior residents to the City. Discussions occurred among
Commission and Mr. Gipson.
D. Presentation and discussion of Silver Senior Services, a Community Service Organization,
dedicated to providing resources and information to seniors and their Caregivers in
Williamson County – Shirley Weber, Silver Senior Services. Ms. Weber explained that Silver
Senior Services is a Community Service Organization dedicated to providing resources and
information to seniors and their caregivers in Williamson County. The members of Silver Senior
Services are passionate about providing the most valuable resources and information to the aging
population and those who care for them. Silver Senior Services is a group of professionals serving
Williamson County and surrounding areas in the field of Law, Financial Services, Real Estate,
Mortgage, Medicare, Accounting and Insurance. This experience tells the group that the seniors
who are able and actively participate in making their own decisions are happier, healthier and well

informed. The goal of Silver Senior Services is to make it easy and convenient for seniors and their
families to find up-to-date information and resources either through their network or referrals to
other professionals. Discussion occurred among the Commission, Ms. Weber and Board members
present representing Silver Senior Services.
E. Discussing of the Priority Initiatives: Communication, Transportation, Dental Care,
Affordable Housing, Mental Health – Gene Jantzen, Board Chair. Transportation: Dan Bonner
and Ginny Hahn. The Commission was thanked for providing encouraging support throughout the
process of the implementation of the City’s fixed-route bus system. Ginny gave an overview of the
activities of the Sun Shine Group which is active in Sun City; Mental Health: Ron Brandon and
Bernie Farkas are meeting with representatives of the Fire and Police departments to obtain
suggestions on how best the Commission can support these public service representatives as they
encounter mental health needs of the senior residents of the City; Dental: Beverly Stehle continues
to become more knowledgeable not only of dental service providers in the area but the specific
dental needs of the seniors; Affordable Housing: Virginia Lazenby spoke of monthly senior
seminars that provide various topics of interest to a variety of audiences who have an interest in
and/or work with senior residents. Virginia will email the Commission of the monthly seminars;
Communication: Tiffany Enos continues to research how best to provide avenues that will reach
seniors and their care givers with a variety of information.
Chairman Gene Janzen announced that the Commission was in receipt of a letter of resignation from
Valerie Nicholson, which also includes her position on the Communication Priority Initiative. Mr.
Janzen shared that congratulations were in order for Valerie’s success in the May election of
becoming City Council’s representative for District 2. Mr. Janzen stated that the Mayor would soon
be appointing a replacement for Valerie on the Commission.
F. Discussion of future agendas and priorities – Gene Jantzen, Board Chair. Gene Jantzen will
contact another City Councilman member to speak during the June meeting. Board was encouraged
to actively recruit various agencies to come speak during the Commission’s monthly meetings. At
the June meeting, Fire Chief Sullivan will update the Commission of pre-hospital medical services
and needs within the community. Continue discussions pertaining to the Priority Initiatives during
upcoming meetings.
Adjournment
The next Commission meeting will be Monday, June 19th, at 6:00 p.m., at the Public Safety Facility, 3500
DB Wood Road, Georgetown, Texas.
The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m. on a motion by Dan Bonner, seconded by Virginia Lazenby, which the
Board approved unanimously.
