Chair Estes called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm.

President Mari Ramirez was in attendance to address the Board regarding item G. No action required.
B. Announcements regarding arts and culture in Georgetown. – Jane Estes, Board Chair. Laura Sewell
passed out the 2017/2018 Southwestern University Theatre Season brochure (attached).
Dana Hendrix announced the current library card exhibit by Heidi Pitre, performance by Austin Opera,
and the upcoming Texas Society of Sculptures reception at the library. Hendrix reminded members that
the library gets a copy of the Americans for the Arts publication Arts Link which is kept with the
periodicals on the second floor of the library.
Jane Estes informed the board about the Texans for the Arts Board meeting held in San Antonio and
was impressed with what’s happening in San Antonio in terms of the arts. Former board member Gary
Anderson will exhibit his art in Austin at the Dougherty Arts Center, August 18-September 16.
Lashley announced that a librarian at the Texas Library Association Annual Assembly meeting in Austin
complimented him, Hendrix, and Estes about their presentation at the TLA Conference in April
concerning libraries and the arts. Lashley also noted that two librarians from Edinburg, TX visited the
library and art center after hearing the TLA presentation. Lashley complimented Mari Ramirez for
judging the Texas Society of Sculptors annual show. No action required.
C. Review of minutes from the June 20, 2017 Arts and Culture Board meeting. –Jane Estes, Board Chair.
Motion by Tim Fleming; second by Sewell to approve minutes from the June 20, 2017 Arts and
Culture Board meeting. Approved 7-0.

handed out the monthly report from GAW (attached). Mari Ramirez, President of GAW, was in

Fleming recommended volunteers do a better job of asking visitors to sign the guest book in the Art
Center. No action required.
F. Review of current City of Georgetown arts and culture budget for fiscal year 16-17. –Eric Lashley,
Library Director. Lashley reported that the remaining arts and culture budget needs to be spent by the
end of September. Hendrix explained that the library would like to purchase track lighting in the library
to highlight its art shows. She also discussed a possible purchase of exhibit panels, similar to the ones
owned by GISD, to accommodate pop up shows in the library. The panels could be loaned out to other
nonprofit arts organizations and come with a cart for easy transport.
Sewell handed out images of utility box art from her trip to Jackson Hole, WY (attached). Sewell asked
the board to consider adding more utility box art in this current budget or next year’s budget. Lashley
explained that there are some traffic signal boxes that could be used for utility box art, but timing for this
fiscal year would be difficult.
After much discussion, Odell moved; Fleming seconded to purchase art panels for the library.
Approved 7-0.
G. Report on proposed City of Georgetown arts and culture budget for 2017-2018 fiscal year. –Eric
Lashley, Library Director. Lashley announced the City Manager placed a part-time Arts and Culture
position in next year’s budget. However, the budget isn’t complete and there is a small chance that the
position could become full-time. Lashley noted that there seems to be support for the following projects
next fiscal year: utility box art, mural, and grants awards. Mari Ramirez was given time to speak on this
item. She asked the board to consider providing a sponsorship to Georgetown Art Works for the 10th
annual Art Hop. After much discussion, the board declined to provide a sponsorship for the Art Hop. No
action taken.
H. Consideration and possible action regarding the Operating Agreement between the City of Georgetown
and Georgetown Art Works as it pertains to the Georgetown Art Center. –Eric Lashley, Library Director.
Lashley reviewed the current operating agreement and addendums the board had previously discussed
for the new agreement. Mari Ramirez (GAW President) answered questions from the board. After
discussing the item requiring GAW to provide all local nonprofit and/or community arts organizations
with free access to the studio, it was clear this is an unworkable mandate and the board agreed to
remove that requirement. Overall, the board and Ramirez are happy with the agreement moving
forward to Council. Lashley announced that he will present changes to the Operating Agreement to
Council at a workshop on Tuesday, August 8 and the final agreement will go before Council on
Tuesday, August 22. No action taken.
I. Report on the Texas Society of Sculptor’s Show. – Dana Hendrix, Fine Arts Librarian and Linda Wilde,
Board Member. Wilde announced that this is the 10th annual show at the library and the first year to
have a People’s Choice Award. Wilde thanked Ramirez for judging the show. Mayor Ross presented a
proclamation to Dar Richardson and enjoyed the show. No action required.
J. Consideration future meeting dates. – Jane Estes, Board Chair. The next meeting will be held Tuesday,
August 15, 2017 at 4:30 P.M. No action taken.
Chair Estes adjourned the meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
