PRESENT: Jane Estes, Tim Fleming, Wes Odell, Laura Sewell, Sharon Snuffer, Carol Watson, and Linda Wilde. STAFF PRESENT: Sarah Jane Blankenship-Arts and Culture Coordinator, Eric Lashley – Library Services Director A. Citizens wishing to address the Board. – Jane Estes, Board Chair. None were present. No action required. B. Announcements regarding arts and culture in Georgetown. Jane Estes, Board Chair. Updates from City staff and board members.  Season tickets are on sale for the theatre and music programs at Southwestern University  The Texas Society of Sculptors reception and awards ceremony at the library was a success (awards to artists were funded by Arts and Culture).  Texans for the Arts is working with a lobbyist to strategize for the next Legislati ve Session. No action required. C. Consideration and possible action to approve the June 19, 2018 meeting minutes. –Jane Estes, Board Chair. Motion by Odell; second by Wilde to approve the June 19, 2018 minutes with corrections. Approved 7-0. D. Monthly report from the Arts and Culture Coordinator. – Sarah Blankenship, Arts and Culture Coordinator. Blankenship handed out a monthly report (attached). Highlighted in the report were the following:  Completion of the Mila Sketch mural  Two sections of the Discover Georgetown Mural were successful saved. An original mural of a Wrigley’s gum ad was found under the stucco.  Blankenship met with Storm W ater Coordinator Tiffany Hunter about creating artwork on the City’s storm water drains to educate the public about wat er pollution.  Georgetown Art Works monthly report  Reception and awards for the Texas Society of Sculptor’s annual show.  Information was submitted to Melissa Trahan-Pecorino for the new issue of Live & Play for the Parks and Recreation Department. Page 2 of 3  Blankenship met with Cari Miller – Director of the Convention and Visitor Bureau and Kim McAuliffe – Main Street Manager to discuss a 20th Anniversary Red Poppy art project.  Sculpture deadline is August 1st for the 2018-2019 Outdoor sculpture tour.  Call for art currently open for the new City Hall and Municipal Court buildings.  Blankenship verified the curved wall hanging system will work in the new City Hall. No action required. E. Consideration and possible action to approve arts and culture grants for events and pro jects occurring October 2018-March 2019. –Jane Estes, Board Chair. Staff recommended not funding a number of organizations because they had already received funding from the board during the fiscal year or they did not provide enough information to make an informed opinion. The board considered all proposals that met the criteria. After a lengthy discussion, motion by Watson; second by Snuffer to distribute grants as follows: $2,361 to the Cinematic Symphony, $2,000 to the Williamson County 4 -H, $1,000 to Georgetown Poetry Festival, $250 to the One Day Academy, $250 to the Watch Homeschool Co-op, $250 to the Boys and Girls Club of Georgetown, $250 to Stuart Wallace Art, and $3,639 to Georgetown Art Works for a total of $10,000. Approved 7-0. F. Consideration and possible action to consider updating the Arts and Culture Strategic Plan. Eric P. Lashley, Library Director. Lashley distributed an executive summary of the current Arts and Culture Strategic Plan (attached), noting the plan was drafted in 2013 and most items listed in the plan have been accomplished. Lashley explained that the board will need to work on updating the plan during the next year. No action taken. G. Consideration and possible action regarding future meeting dates. –Jane Estes, Chair. Blankenship reported in order to give artists more time to submit proposals for the City Center projects, the board would need to hold a special meeting in which to review the submissions. Motion by Odell; second by Wilde to hold a special meeting on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 4:30 P.M. Approved 7-0. The next regular meeting of the Arts and Culture Board will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 4:30 P.M.
