Members in attendance: Wendy Cash, Nosa Asowata, Christine Tomaszewski, David Valdez, Laura Klein Plunkett, Chere Heintzman, Robert Case, Paul Secord, Gordon Pierce, and Dawn Korman Absent – Chad Holz, Larry Raper, Michael J Walton, Michael Price, PJ Stevens, Scott Macmurdo Staff in Attendance: David Morgan, City Manager; Kim McAuliffe, Interim Economic Development Director; John Sullivan; Fire Chief; Sally Miculek; Library Director; and Ariel Traub, Intergovernmental Relations Manager (virtually) Guests in Attendance: None Regular Session B Call to Order- Ariel Traub, Intergovernmental Relations Manager David Morgan called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM C Roll Call – Ariel Traub, Intergovernmental Relations Manager David Morgan initiated introductions of members present D Presentation and discussion regarding Economic Development, Arts & Culture, The Georgetown Public Library, & The Fire Department – Ariel Traub, Intergovernmental Relations Manager; Kim McAuliffe, Interim Economic Development Director; Amanda Still, Arts & Culture Coordinator; Sally Miculek, Director of the Georgetown Public Library; and John Sullivan, Fire Chief Kim McAuliffe presented on Economic Development & Arts and Culture legislative outlook. Provided examples of projects we have used economic development incentives on. Referenced the Comptroller as a resource that houses economic development deals that cities across the state make. Discussed HOT funds dedicated for the arts. Page 4 of 7 Sally Miculek presented on the Georgetown Public Library and legislative issues to note. Discussed examples of projects/initiatives that the library uses grant funds for. Answered a question regarding Friends of Library – do they hinder our ability to get grants? The answer was no, they are very helpful in the effort by initiating letter writing campaigns and showing their support. John Sullivan presented on the Georgetown Fire Department and discussed challenges with hiring talent, salary comparisons from surrounding areas, and legislative outlook for the Texas 88th session. No action was made at this meeting. E Presentation and discussion regarding Planning and Parks – Ariel Traub, Intergovernmental Relations Manager; Sofia Nelson, Planning Director; and Kimberly Garrett, Parks & Recreation Director Sofia Nelson presented on multiple topics including past legislation that has impacted the city such as shot clock legislation and the role that the Planning & Zoning Commission plays in that process. Annexation and tree ordinances were also discussed. Members had questions regarding the process of annexation as well as services available to the ETJ versus within city limits. Kimberly Garrett discussed the role that Parks & Recreation plays within the City of Georgetown. Page 6 of 7 She explained the sporting goods tax and how that is used to benefit parks across the state. F Consideration and possible action regarding the 88th Texas State Legislative Agenda – Ariel Traub, Intergovernmental Relations Manager No action regarding the state legislative agenda was taken at this meeting. The Task Force voted to hold an additional meeting to focus solely on the state legislative agenda after all presentations have been made.
