The Commission may, at any time, recess the Regular Session to convene an Executive Session at the request of the Chair, a Commissioner, the Director or legal counsel for any purpose authorized by the Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code Chapter 551. ITEM SUMMARY: FINANCIAL IMPACT: na SUBMITTED BY: Karen Frost, Recording Secretary City of Georgetown, Texas Historic and Architectural Review December 11, 2014 SUBJECT: Public hearing and possible action on a Certificate of Design Compliance Request for Signage at City of Georgetown, Block 50, Lot 1 (S/PT), 0.08 acres, located at 824 South Austin Ave ITEM SUMMARY: The City of Georgetown is in receipt of a request for a CDC for a portable sign for the business located at 824 South Austin Avenue. . According to the submitted letter of intent, the applicant wishes to place a portable sign on the sidewalk during normal business hours. . Staff recommends approval of the request based on the findings that the request meets the approval criteria of Section(s) 3.13.030of the Unified Development Code (UDC), as outlined in the attached Staff Report. The affirmative vote of the majority of the HARC Sign Subcommittee members is required to approve the CDC request. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The city waived the required fees for the applicant. The size and colors are appropriate for the structure and is within the allowable size. Portable signs are appropriate in Area 1 for properties with high pedestrian counts. APPLICABLE DESIGN GUIDELINES 9.1 Consider the building front as part of an overall sign program 9.2 A sign shall be subordinate to the overall building composition 9.3 A primary sign should identify the services or business offered within. 9.4 A secondary sign should identify the services or business offered within. 9.13 A portable sign may be considered, in the Downtown Overlay District. 9.15 A sign should not in any way obscure or compete with architectural details of an historic building facade. PUBLIC COMMENTS As of the date of this report, no public comments have been received by the City. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends approval of CDC-2014-048 as presented. The size and colors are appropriate for the structure and the use of multi- tenant signs for properties with multiple tenants is strongly encouraged. Pole mounted signs are appropriate in Area 2 for properties set back from the street edge. SUBMITTED BY Matt Synatschk, Historic Planner PLAN REVIEW: Description of sign changes at 202 South Austin Ave. Owner: Patti Colbert 512-656-8390 Tenant: Laura Atkinson – 512-627-9879 The sign is a “monument” structure with four panels for signs representing each of the four tenants. The sign is on South Austin Avenue and has been there for many years. The Gatzby Salon’s sign panel will be a white background with “Gatzby” in Pantone Color is 7627 and “Salon” in black. The dimensions of that sign panel is 41.5 X 51 inches. A photo of the monument sign is attached. Real Deals and Ironstone/BIG will be replaced with Gatzby Salon and Chunky Funky Monkey. You will receive Chunky Funky Monkey sign application in the near future.
