SUBMITTED BY: Lawren Weis s ATTACHMENTS: Description Type Minutes September 2016 Backup Material Page 3 of 15 Minutes of the Meeting of the Library Advisory Board City of Georgetown September 20, 2016 The Library Advisory Board met on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Small Conference Room of the Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. 8th Street MEMBERS PRESENT: Pat Baldwin, Michael Barnes, Lindsay Cooper, Tom Hagen and Pete Rose. MEMBERS ABSENT: Tom Milburn STAFF PRESENT: Eric Lashley- Library Director Chair Rose called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M. A. Citizens wishing to address the Board. – None were present. B. Consideration of the minutes from the August 16, 2016 Library Advisory board meeting. –Pete Rose, Board Chair. Tom Hagen moved to accept the August 2016 minutes as distributed. Michael Barnes seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. C. Consideration of Library Director’s Report. – Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley reported that board member Jonathan Sherwin had resigned from the Library Advisory Board due to work obligations. Lashley reviewed the monthly statistics with the Board and announced upcoming library events. A short video featuring Chair Rose was shown. The video was produced by the Chisholm Trail Communities Foundation as part of their Fast Pitch grant event. Staff members will be able to use the video on the website and Facebook page to promote and market what the library has to offer. There were no patron comments to read this month from the library’s suggestion box. No action required. D. Consideration and possible action to draft a letter to City Manager David Morgan concerning the Library Director. –Pete Rose, Board Chair and Tom Hagen, Board Member. Board members reviewed a draft letter created by Hagen. After discussing a few minor changes, Michael Barnes moved to send the letter to City Manager David Morgan. Pat Baldwin seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. E. Report on the library Community Resources Coordinator position. –Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley passed out a copy of the job description for the Community Resource Coordinator position. Duties of the position were discussed, along with recent instances when a person in this position would have been helpful to our patrons. No action required. F. Report on the Strategic Plan Survey. –Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley reviewed the Anacortes Public Library’s recent survey used to create their new strategic plan. Lashley will reference this example to design the library’s upcoming survey. No action required. G. Consideration of future board meetings. – Pete Rose, Board Chair. Rose will not be in attendance for October’s meeting. The next Library Advisory Board meeting will be Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. No action taken. Chair Rose adjourned the meeting at 7:27 PM. (Baby & Me is now Baby Bounce- ages 0-18 months. Wobbles is now Tales for Tots- ages 18-24 months. Story Pals is now Preschool Storytime- ages 3-5. Storytime Friday is now Family Fun Storytime- all ages.)  Williamson County Art Guild provided art in the library’s galleries during September.(Correction to last month’s report: The Hidden Collection of Richard H. Rodgers was on display during August, not WCAG)  Texas Society of Sculptors show wraps at the end of this month, and Art Hop pieces will be installed immediately following. TSOS provided free sculpture demonstrations to the public on September 17.  The Sieker Band provided live music on September 18 at 2 p.m.  Community Resource Coordinator position is posted for applications.  GPL Cinema screened Matilda on September 16, and Meet Me in St. Louis on September 23.  Children’s staff coordinated Maketember events again this year. o 9/10- Tweens Minute to Make It: Kids ages 9-12 used wits and creativity to solve a series of timed engineering challenges. o 9/17- Teen Tech Take Apart: Kids ages 12-18 destroyed and rebuilt tech to make robot sculptures or art. o 9/24- Maker Day: An all ages event that featured science experiments, paper crafts, antique technology, Legos, Makey Makeys, a giant Lite Brite and more. PATRON COMMENTS 1. Patron Comment: What an amazing idea to hire a social worker! 2. Patron Comment: Clean the arms of the upholstered chairs. 3. Patron Comment: Printed 2 pages and stood forever at the counter waiting to retrieve them. 4. Patron Comment: Need more help.
