Minutes of the Meeting of the
Library Advisory Board
City of Georgetown
November 15, 2016
The Library Advisory Board met on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Small Conference Room
of the Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. 8th Street
MEMBERS PRESENT: Pat Baldwin, Michael Barnes, Tom Hagen, Tom Milburn and Teresa Robinson
MEMBERS ABSENT: Pete Rose and Lindsay Cooper STAFF PRESENT: Eric Lashley- Library Director
and Patrick Lloyd- Community Resources Coordinator
Vice Chair Tom Hagen called the meeting to order at 6:35 P.M.
A. Citizens wishing to address the Board. – None were present.
B. Introduction of new board member Teresa Robinson. –Eric Lashley, Library Director. New member Teresa
Robinson introduced herself, and board members introduced themselves to her. No action required.
C. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes from the October 18, 2016 Library Advisory Board
meeting. –Tom Hagen, Vice Chair. Michael Barnes moved to accept the October 2016 minutes as
distributed. Tom Milburn seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
D. Consideration of Library Director’s Report. – Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley reviewed the monthly
statistics with the Board and reported that the library received a $3,000 grant from the Chisholm Trail
Communities Foundation’s Fast Pitch competition.
Lashley explained that the library has seen a recent increase in its homeless population. He reported on
incidents that have occurred, along with steps the staff has taken to maintain the safety of all library
patrons and procedures the library has in place in case of an emergency.
October’s comments were read from the library’s suggestion box. No action required.
E. Report on Library Community Resources Coordinator position. –Eric Lashley, Library Director.
Lashley introduced Patrick Lloyd, LMSW to the Board. Lloyd discussed his qualifications and
experience in social work. He explained that there are only six libraries in the country that employ
a social worker. Lashley explained that Lloyd will be a pioneer in his field and will be looking to
create best practices for his role in the library. No action required.
F. Report on the Strategic Plan Survey. –Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley did not have
anything to report at this time.
G. Consideration of future meeting dates. – Tom Hagen, Vice Chair. After some discussion about
December’s meeting, Tom Milburn moved to change next month ’s meeting date to the second
Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 6:00 pm. Teresa Robinson seconded the motion, which passed
unanimously.
Vice Chair Hagen adjourned the meeting at 7:35 PM.

DIRECTOR’S MONTHLY REPORT
GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
NOVEMBER 2016
NOVEMBER- HIGHLIGHTS
The library was closed November 24 & 25 in for Thanksgiving.
Austin Jazz Band performed on November 20, in the library’s Live Music Series.
Local artist Alora Johns displayed her art in the library’s gallery during November.
GPL Cinema screened The Great Escape on November 11, in honor of Veterans Day. The Jungle
Book was shown on November 26 in the Children’s Room.
The library partnered with the fire & police departments, The Salvation Army and a local caterer to host
a Community Thanksgiving event on November 24. Meals were given to visitors for free, as well as
delivered to list of home provided by meals on wheels. The committee estimated 450 people were fed.
During November, the library’s weekly e-newsletter averaged a readership of 3,991 people.
Community Resources Coordinator Patrick Lloyd began his position at the library on November 14.
