Minutes of the Meeting of the
Library Advisory Board
City of Georgetown
November 5, 2019
The Library Advisory Board met on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the main lobby of the
Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. 8th Street
MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE: Lindsay Cooper, Susan Cooper, John Hudson, Michael Kelley, Richard
Thielmann, and Linda Schaffer.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Thom Sinwell.
STAFF IN ATTENDANCE: Eric Lashley – Library Director.
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chair - Cooper.
Regular Agenda
A. Citizens wishing to address the Board. As of the deadline, no persons were signed up to speak
on items other than what was posted on the agenda. No action required.
B. Introduction of new Library Advisory Board member Susan Cooper. – Lindsay Cooper, Chair.
Susan Cooper is currently the librarian at Georgetown High School. Board members introduced
themselves and welcomed her to the board. No action required.
C. Consideration and possible action to approve the October 1, 2019 Library Advisory Board
minutes. – Lindsay Cooper, Chair. Motion by Kelley; second by Schaffer to approve the
October 1, 2019 Library Advisory Board minutes. Approved 6-0. (Sinwell absent).
D. Consideration of the Library Director’s report. – Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley noted the
library was closed the first week of November for inventory. He also reported the Friends of the
Library had raised over $80,000 in donations for the WOW HD home delivery van and will
present a check to Council on December 10, 2019. Lashley showed the board a photo of the
damage the bookmobile suffered when a deer struck the vehicle in Sun City.
The Adultish screening of the horror film Us was well attended. Lashley reviewed upcoming
events and noted the Library will be posting a Reference Librarian position soon.
Lashley reported he would be attending Library Journal’s Director’s Summit in Tulsa, OK
November 7-8. New sculptures have been placed around the library as part of the annual
downtown Sculpture Tour.
Lashley read the comments from the library’s suggestion box from September 2019. No action
required.
E. Consideration and possible action to write letter to City Council advising Council concerning
future Library budgets. – Lindsay Cooper, Chair. The board discussed the timing of drafting a

letter to Council. Since the fiscal year has just begun and the need for a Circulation Supervisor
would still be needed next year, the board decided to wait until the 2020 budget cycle to draft
an advisory letter to City Council. No action taken.
F. Report on the Central Texas Library System’s annual meeting held in College Station, Texas. -
Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley reported he and Fine Arts Librarian Dana Hendrix
attended the annual membership meeting of the Central Texas Library System in College
Station, TX on October 18. Hendrix presented about the State Library’s new e-book program.
Hendrix served as the co-chair on a statewide committee that selected materials for the initial
collection. Lashley noted one can download an app called SimplyE to access these new
materials. In the future, Georgetown patrons will have a larger selection of e-books thanks to
the State Library. No action required.
G. Consideration and possible action regarding the future meeting dates. Lindsay Cooper, Chair.
The November meeting will be held as regularly scheduled on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at
6:00 p.m. No action taken.
Chair Cooper adjourned the meeting at 6:54 p.m.

November 2019
November Highlights
The library was closed November 4-8 for inventory. The week included inventory, staff development
trainings, and general re-organizing throughout the building.
The library closed early on Wednesday, November 27 at 6 p.m. to allow staff to travel for the Thanksgiving
holiday. The library was closed all day Thursday, November 28 & Friday, November 29 as well.
Eric Lashley attended Library Journal’s Director’s Summit in Tusla, OK, November 7-8.
Recurring events for children/tweens/teens such as Storytimes, Yoga Storytime with Miss Kalena, READ Dogs,
Teen Advisory Board, Homeschool Happenings, and Dungeons & Dragons continued this month. Other programs
included:
o Tween Nailed It baking competition, November 9
o ACCHAOS for homeschoolers and tweens on November 15
o Music with Mar, November 18
o No storytime the week of Thanksgiving
o Dare to Prepare: New driver safety program for Teens, November 30
Recurring events for adults such as artist receptions, Games for Grown Ups/Adult Coloring Circle, Knitting
Club and Wired Wednesday continued this month. Other programs included:
o Adultish hosted Holiday Cheers with Austin Beer Works for guests 21 and up.
o Live Music Sunday featuring the Kiyoshi Tamagawa and Friends on November 17
o Art exhibits:
Gary Nowlin: Texas, Naturally! Landscapes Near and Far, October 29-December 7 in the
upstairs galleries.
Williamson County Art Guild, October 29-November 25 in the Café gallery.
Karen Limbaugh: Sharing My View of Nature, November 26-January 5, in the Café gallery.

1. Please change the new lights back to the pleasing not so bright lights. They are just too bright and is a
mirgraine trigger. This is on the first floor by the café. Thank you-concerned
