Library Advisory Board
City of Georgetown
January 17, 2016
The Library Advisory Board met on Tuesday, January 17, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Small Conference Room of the
Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. 8th Street
MEMBERS PRESENT: Pat Baldwin, Michael Barnes, Lindsay Cooper, Tom Hagen, Tom Milburn, Teresa Robinson,
and Pete Rose.
MEMBERS ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: Eric Lashley- Library Director
Chair Rose called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M.
A. Citizens wishing to address the Board. – None were present.
B. Consideration and possible action to approve the December 13, 2016 minutes. –Pete Rose, Board Chair. Motion by
Barnes; second by Cooper to approve the December 13, 2016 minutes. Approved 7-0.
C. Report from the library’s Community Resources Coordinator. –Patrick Lloyd, Community Resources
Coordinator. Lashley reported on Patrick Lloyd’s activity with patrons in need. He also provided some
statistics related to his findings. No action required.
D. Consideration and possible action to support the library’s grant application to the Texas State Library Archives
Commission for the Community Resources Coordinator position. –Eric Lashley, Library Director. With Library
Board and City Council support, the library can apply for two more years of funding for the Community Resources
Coordinator position through the Texas State Library Archives Commission.
Motion by Milburn; second by Hagen to support the library’s application to TSLAC for additional funding of the
CRC position. The letter of support will be presented to City Council for final approval. Approved 7-0.
E. Consideration of Library Director’s Report. – Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley reviewed monthly statistics and
announced that Library Assistant Toni Nietfeld was named Employee of the Year in the City’s Downtown &
Community Services division. December’s patron comments were read from the library’s suggestion box. No action
required.
F. Report on Courageous Conversations events. –Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley reported that the
Courageous Conversations committee selected Congressman John Lewis’ three volume series March, for
the community book discussion. There will be structured discussions January 31, February 7, and February
21, 2017 at 6:30 pm at the library. The committee hopes that using a graphic novel will attract young adults
to participate in the discussions. No action required.
G. Consideration of future meeting dates. – Pete Rose, Board Chair. Motion by Milburn; second by Barnes to
move the next meeting to Monday, February 20 at 6:30 PM. Approved 7-0.
Chair Rose adjourned the meeting at 7:20 PM.

DIRECTOR’S MONTHLY REPORT
GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
JANUARY 2017
JANUARY- HIGHLIGHTS
The library was closed Sunday, January 1 & Monday January 2 for New Year’s Day. We were also
closed on Monday, Jan. 16 for MLK Jr. Day.
Pianist Kiyoshi Tamagawa performed on Sunday, January 15 in the library’s Live Music Series.
Sung Cha Brooks displayed art in the library’s gallery during January. Several of her pieces sold during
the exhibit.
GPL Cinema screened The Secret Life of Pets on Jan. 13 and Groundhog Day on Jan. 27
During January, the library’s weekly e-newsletter averaged a readership of 4,114 people.
Staff members attended the City’s Employee Appreciation Luncheon on December 9.
Tweens enjoyed a Pokemon event and teens played tabletop games on January 21.
The Assistance League and library staff formed a committee to plan “An Evening in Paris” fundraiser for
April 8. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at the front desk.
On Jan. 31 a task force of City employees met to discuss homeless issues in Georgetown. The task
force will identify problems, meet with local non-profits and present a recommendation to council on
how to provide resources to the homeless population.
