Minutes of the Meeting of the
Library Advisory Board
City of Georgetown
December 7, 2021
The Library Advisory Board met on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. in Classroom 211 of the Georgetown Public
Library, 402 W. 8th Street.
MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE: Nosa Asowata, Susan Cooper, Nancy Hill, Michael Kelley, and Thom Sinwell.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Kathy Wieland, Richard Thielmann
STAFF IN ATTENDANCE: Sally Miculek–Library Director, Josh Macias, Reference Librarian and Lawren Weiss-
Administrative Assistant.
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Board Chair Kelley.
A. Citizens wishing to address the board. -Michael Kelley, Chair. None were present. No action required.
B. Staff introductions and service spotlight. -Sally Miculek, Library Director and Josh Macias, Reference
Librarian. Miculek introduced new Reference Librarian Josh Macias to the Board. Macias joins the
Georgetown team after serving at Leander Public Library. He is currently managing the Library’s Live
Music Sunday program and collection development for adult audiobooks and reference materials.
Macias is also part of the newly formed Library Meeting Room Team. No action required.
C. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes from the November 2, 2021, Library Advisory
Board meeting. -Michael Kelley, Board Chair. Board members did not have revisions for the
November minutes. Motion by Sinwell; second by Hill to approve the November 2, 2021, Library
Advisory Board minutes as distributed. Approved 4-0 (Wieland, Thielmann & Asowata absent).
D. Report regarding Library café request for proposals process. -Sally Miculek, Library Director. Miculek
reported that 74 interested parties were notified of the café request for proposal, 3 attended the open
house and only one provided a proposal to the City to become the Library’s new café vendor. Sweet
Lemon provided a strong proposal, so Miculek is requesting that Council approve City staff to begin
contract negotiations for a concessionaire agreement with Sweet Lemon. Miculek estimates March for
the café opening, pending Council’s final approval of the agreement. No action required. Asowata
joined during this item.
E. Review of Library’s Request for Reconsideration form. -Sally Miculek, Library Director. Board
members requested the addition of the City’s logo onto the Request for Reconsideration form.
Discussion followed regarding types of cardholders eligible to utilize the form. Miculek requested the
Board bring reconsideration policy changes to Council, along with the upcoming collection
development policy updates early in the new year. Miculek noted she would ask Legal if groups and
organizations should be included or excluded from submitting a request for reconsideration. Board
members asked that the request for reconsideration procedure be added to the policy. They also
suggested that a citizen’s time extension request to address the Board be determined by a majority
vote from the Board and not solely up to the Chair. No action required.
F. Consideration of Library Director's report. -Sally Miculek, Library Director. Miculek reviewed the Director’s
report as provided in the agenda. Topics included, library statistics, programs, holiday lights recycling,
and review of patron comments. No action required.
G. Consideration and possible action regarding future meeting dates and times. -Michael Kelley, Board Chair. Due to the
public posting schedule and upcoming holiday closures, Miculek asked the Board to consider pushing next month’s
meeting to a week later. Board members agreed; therefore, the next Library Advisory Board meeting will be held on
Tuesday, January 11 at 6 p.m. No action taken.
