conference room of the Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. 8th Street
MEMBERS PRESENT: Pat Baldwin, Michael Barnes, Lois Case, Tom Hagen, Linda
Nix and Margaret Thompson.
STAFF PRESENT: Eric Lashley- Library Director
OTHERS PRESENT: Anna Aiken - Citizen
Regular Session
A. Citizens wishing to address the Board. Anna Aiken, the original chair of the Library
Board in 1965, was a guest at the board meeting. Aiken told a few stories about the
founding of the library in 1965-66. Lashley thanked her for serving the community.
B. Consideration of minutes of the March 16, 2015 meeting. – Michael Barnes made
the motion to accept the minutes of the March 2015 Library Advisory Board
Meeting. Tom Hagen seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
C. Consideration of Library Director’s report – Eric Lashley. Lashley reported that
circulation was slightly down over the previous year. The door counters lost battery
power and therefore, the visitation count was not accurate. Lashley noted that
OverDrive circulation is doing well with 1,999 checkouts of e -books and 505 e-audio
book checkouts. Bookmobile circulation was 2,731.
Lashley noted that volunteer hours are climbing with 816 hours for the month of
March. The volunteer appreciation luncheon held in April was a big success. The
luncheon was a 50s themed party.
Lashley reported that the parking lot bids came in slightly over budget, but the
Council will approve the construction company at the May 12, 2015 council meeting.
Lashley noted that the library had hired an intern to help catalog the backlog of new
library materials. He also reported that the number of new titles added in March
increased to 1,371. Lashley reported that the City hired a new City Manager, David
Morgan, from Richardson, Texas. The new City Manager is planning on attending
the July 2015 Library Advisory Board meeting.

Lashley reported that staff attended the annual Texas Library Association
conference in Austin, Texas the week of April 13th. Lashley was on a panel for adult
programming and did a session on the library’s bike program. Melissa Mote, the
Teen Librarian, took a number of Georgetown teens to the conference.
Lashley showed the board two proclamations; one from Mayor Ross in honor of
National Bookmobile Day and the other from the Texas Senate for our 50th
Anniversary.
Tax assistance ended on April 15 and the volunteers had a very successful year.
Lashley read the patron comments for March.
D. Consideration and possible action to draft a letter concerning library budget
recommendations to City Council – Eric Lashley. During March’s meeting, the board
recommended writing a letter to Council concerning the library’s budget for FY 2015-
2016. The board drafted a letter to support the staff’s recommendation to hire a new
Cataloging Librarian and increase the budget for temp/on-call employees. Hagen
made the motion to approve the letter to City Council supporting the library’s
budget requests. Lois Case seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
E. Library Advisory Board Bylaws update signatures – Linda Nix. The updated bylaws
were signed by Linda Nix, Chair and Margaret Thompson, Secretary.
F. Report on February 27 staff training, core values, mission statement, and customer
service policy – Eric Lashley. Lashley distributed a copy of the library’s fine print
policy. The board discussed the policy and asked for a few minor revisions.
Margaret Thompson moved to approve the Fine Print policy. Michael Barnes
seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
G. Consideration of dates of future Board meetings – Eric Lashley. The next board
meeting will be Monday, May 18, 2015.
Chair Linda Nix adjourned the meeting at 7:36 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Margaret Thompson, Secretary Linda Nix, Chair

PATRON COMMENTS FOR APRIL 2015
1. Patron comment: Need tow central computers (15 minute limit) for those of us in a hurry and need to
look up and or requiring a printout. Thus allowing others access to a well-timed computer.
2. Patron comment: Need more space in the Jr. AV section. Can’t shelve everything.
3. Patron comment: I just read the first 6 pages of Hurricanes in Paradise and it was so good. Can’t wait
2 read more. P.S. it’s a new one.
4. Patron comment: We need another Romance paperback rack!
5. Patron comment: This is the nosiest Library I have ever been to! There is no designated “quiet area”.
When I am trying to concentrate, which is normal behavior in a library; it is nearly impossible because of
the noise level. You need a “quiet area” desperately. When I asked a library associate about noise, I
was chastised as if I was the bad guy. Aren’t libraries supposed to be quiet?
