Georgetown Public Library
April 2019
April Highlights
Director Eric Lashley was named Librarian of the Year at the Texas Library Association
conference. Several library staff members also attended the conference and presented
during various sessions.
The library was closed Sunday, April 21 in observance of Easter.
The annual Georgetown ISD Art Show took place April 2-14, featuring pieces from all
grade levels. A reception was held for the young artists and their families on April 3.
Programs for children/tweens/teens in April included:
o Recurring events such as Storytimes, READ Dogs, Teen Advisory Board, Teen
Hang, Teen Writing Group, Homeschool Happenings, and Dungeons & Dragons
o Tween Toys Fur Tails, April 13
o Teen Cookies and Canvas, April 13
o Spring parties, April 24 and 26
Programs for adults in April included:
o Recurring events such as artist receptions, Knitting Club, Games for Grown
Ups/Adult Coloring Circle and Wired Wednesday
o Adultish hosted Hoppy Hour Petting Zoo, April 5
o GPL World Cinema screened “Face Places”, April 10
o Assistant Director Sally Miculek and Fine Arts Librarian Dana Hendrix partnered
with Southwestern University for the 2019 Eco Fiction Community Read Program
on April 1 and 8. The program covered the book, “Odds Against Tomorrow” and
featured a climate change talk by Emily Northrop.
o Live Music Sunday: Wild Basin Winds performed on the fourth Sunday, 4/28
instead of third Sunday this month due to the Easter closure on 4/21.
o Art exhibits:
Poppies, Georgetown, Horses and Longhorns: Select Photographs of
David Werner by David Werner (First floor Café Gallery)
GISD Art Show by K-12 GISD students (Elementary and Middle School
students on the first floor, High School students on Second floor bridge
and meeting room hallway)
Whimsical Stitches by Pam Jernigan (Second floor bridge and meeting
room hallway, following GISD exhibit)

o Tax Assistance led by volunteer tax team on Tuesdays, Wednesdays,
Thursdays, and Saturdays until April 13.

1. We had a ton of fun at the adultish hoppy hour! Looking forward to attending more
programs in the future.
