The City of Georgetown is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Minutes of the Meeting of the
Library Advisory Board
City of Georgetown
May 18, 2015
The Library Advisory Board met on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the staff
conference room of the Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. 8th Street
MEMBERS PRESENT: Pat Baldwin, Lois Case, Tom Hagen, Linda Nix and Pete Rose.
STAFF PRESENT: Sally Miculek- Library Director
Regular Session
A. Citizens wishing to address the Board. None present.
B. Consideration of minutes of the April 20, 2015 meeting. – Pete Rose made the
motion to accept the minutes of the April 2015 Library Advisory Board Meeting.
Tom Hagen seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
C. Consideration of Library Director’s report – Sally Miculek. Miculek reviewed the
Director’s Report with the Board; highlighting circulation statistics and discussing
changes and moves in the Library’s collection, as well as immediate past and
upcoming programming. Miculek reported that circulation numbers continue to go
down due to the cataloging backlog. The group discussed the Library’s Tech
Services department’s plans for catching up on backlogged materials and efforts to
add funding for a new Cataloging position in the FY 2016 budget.
Miculek read the patron comments for March.
D. Election of Vice Chair- Sally Miculek. This was a typo in the Board’s agenda. No
election was necessary for this position.
E. Election of Secretary- Sally Miculek. Due to Margaret’s resignation, the Library
Advisory Board was in need of a new secretary. Lois Case made the motion to
elect Tom Hagen as Secretary of the Library Advisory Board. Rose seconded the
motion, which passed unanimously.
F. Report on new parking lot on 8th Street- Sally Miculek. Miculek reported that City
Council had received and approved the adjusted budget request for $338,863.95,
and approved the hiring of Wolf Construction LP of Salado, TX for the construction
of the new 8th street parking lot. While construction is ongoing, patrons will be
encouraged to use the Old Library’s parking lot. Street parking as well as the 9th
Street lot will remain available.

G. Report on budget for 2015-2016 Fiscal Year. – Sally Miculek. Miculek noted that the
Library’s primary budget addition for FY 16 is the addition of funding for a new
Cataloger position. She thanked the Library Advisory Board for its support and the
letter to Council recommending this position. The Friends of the Library Board will be
submitting a similar letter for the City Manager’s consideration.
H. Consideration of dates for future meetings. – Linda Nix. The Board’s next meeting
will be Monday, June 15, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. The new City Manager, David Morgan,
will attend the Board’s July meeting.
Chair Linda Nix adjourned the meeting at 7:07 P.M.

DIRECTOR’S MONTHLY REPORT
GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
May 2015
HIGHLIGHTS
Peter Fletcher provided live music on May 17, 2015.
There were two different art displays during May. In the beginning of the month, GISD students
displayed art on both floors of the library. Alice Stultz is displaying her art on the second floor from the
middle of May to the middle of June.
May 22nd, the library hosted a To Kill a Mockingbird screening as part of the 50th anniversary
celebrations. The event was successful with an attendance of 26 guests. Light snacks were provided,
tote bags were sold and attendees asked if the library would host another movie event in the near
future.
May 26, Director Lashley made the budget pitch for FY 15/16 at the City Council meeting.
Library staff continues working on content and format changes to the new library website.
PATRON COMMENTS FOR MAY 2015
1. Patron comment: I just wish there were 100,000 computers.
2. Patron comment: Book reports on most popular books. Competitive Reading events. Debates and
Lectures.
3. Patron comment: Book report contest with rewards thru the library. Books, vouchers, gift cards.
4. Patron comment: I suggest we have computers with unlimited time. And we should have 24 hours of
library time!
5. Patron comment: I suggest you spray the headphones each day with disinfectant, if you don’t
already. Thank you for all you do to make this a great library.
6. Patron comment: Why I love the WOW!mobile: I love it for the convenience, being able to obtain my
books I want to read without having to drive downtown. When my sciatica, arthritis or other aches and
pains occur it is so nice to have the WOW with Michele’s smiling helpfulness in obtaining good books to
enjoy. She is a real treasure!
7. Patron comment: You guys do an awesome job!!!
8. Patron comment: Standalone back to back 15 minute use computer full access for those on a run to
verify email and printout immediately.
9. Patron comment: I really love this library.
10. Patron comment: There should be a waitress to serve us food!
11. Patron comment: The plug in the middle of the floor by the computers is hazardous. Needs to be
covered.
