Happenings for June: Since the last Board meeting I have added 2 new permanent bookmobile stops to our monthly calendar. Wesleyan Independent, Phase 2 – East building will be on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of each month at 4pm. The Wow!mobile already stops at the first Wesleyan Independent building. I anticipate this being a very successful addition to the calendar. We have a lovely professional relationship with the staff and are mutually interested in serving the residents to the best of our ability. Georgetown Square Apartments will be on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 4:45pm. Wow! stopped here a few years ago in the mornings and was canceled due to low attendance. I’m hoping the new 4:45 time slot and the cooperation of new and enthusiastic management will help nurture our second attempt at success. Rough 2 weeks for the WOW…and maybe Kalena The bus was out of service for almost 2 weeks for body repair. The service time ran longer than initially scheduled and we all know that Sun City waits for no (wo)man so, I had to improvise. Many people still missed me despite my best efforts. I would like to request the purchase of a large car magnet with the WOW!mobile logo/graphics on it so I have more of an identifying mark on whatever van COG gives me in these circumstances. Page 14 of 18 ***SWIMMING IN WORDS*** I have reached out and paired up with the Aquatics Supervisor (Aaron Duke) with COG’s Parks & Recreation department to offer a wowmobile meetup for the kiddos in the Algerita neighborhood. The kids will receive a punch card pass for Williams Dr. Pool that looks like this: This program will replace Run&Read. It’s just too dang hot. Hopefully this will draw some kids out of their air conditioned living room to hang out and have some library sponsored free fun with their community. ***REMINDER*** SUMMER!!!!! SUMMER WOW!MOBILE ACTIVITIES FOR THE KIDDOS Bball Book Club: 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, 6pm at San Jose Park (June 8-Aug.3) We’ll shoot hoops for 30 minutes, relax in the shade with cold water and fruit while I read 2 chapters of the summer book selection (Boy 21 by Matthew Quick). Swimming In Words! : Thursdays 12-3 on dates above. See pass for details. Prizes are awarded for perfect attendance as incentive for participation. SUMMER READING SWIMMING IN WORDS 2017 WOW!MOBILE SUMMER BOOKCLUB Williams Drive Pool 3201 Williams Drive THURSDAYS 12pm-3pm (ON THESE DATES ONLY!) JUNE 22nd 29th JULY 6th 13th 20th 27th AUGUST 3rd 10th Swimming, snacks, crafts with Ms. Kalena! DO NOT LOSE THIS PASS – 1 PER PERSON Commented [KP1]: Page 15 of 18 The Wow!mobile will offer a separate summer reading program as most WOW!mobile kiddos are stuck at home over the summer. It is similar to the one offered at the main library. Reading minutes will be counted, honor based system, paper tally sheet, and prizes awarded to highest minutes read. Thanks for reading! Have a great day!
