Minutes of the Meeting of the
Library Advisory Board
City of Georgetown
June 5, 2018
The Library Advisory Board met on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the first floor Staff
Conference Room, Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. 8th Street
MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE: Pat Baldwin, Lindsay Cooper, Michael Kelley, and Linda
Schaffer.
MEMBERS ABSENT: John Hudson, Pete Rose, and Thom Sinwell.
STAFF IN ATTENDANCE: Eric Lashley - Library Director, Sarah Blankenship- Arts and Culture
Coordinator, Lawren Weiss-Administrative Assistant, Sheri Miklaski-Outreach Librarian,
Rachael Pattillo-Marketing Coordinator, Sally Bernier-Technical Services Librarian, and Sally
Miculek-Assistant Director.
Vice Chair Cooper called the meeting to order at 10 a.m.
Regular Agenda
A. Citizens wishing to address the Board. As of the deadline, no persons were signed up to
speak on items other than what was posted on the agenda. No action required.
B. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes from the June 5, 2018 Library
Advisory Board meeting. – Lindsay Cooper, Vice Chair. Motion by Schaffer; second
by Kelley to approve the June 2018 meeting minutes. Approved 4-0 (Hudson, Rose
and Sinwell absent).
C. Consideration and possible action to respond to the citizen request for reconsideration of
Brian Biggs’ Tinyville Town I’m a Librarian. –Eric Lashley, Library Director. Tracy Tucker,
the patron who made the request for reconsideration of Tinyville Town I’m a Librarian did
not attend the board meeting. Baldwin noted the role of the library is to protect the first
amendment rights of our residents and that there is nothing inappropriate about the
book. Members of the board agreed that the book does not violate the community’s
standards. After a brief discussion, motion by Kelley; second by Shaffer to deny the
request to remove Tinyville Town I’m a Librarian from the collection of Georgetown
Public Library. Approved 4-0 (Hudson, Rose, and Sinwell absent). Board members
asked Lashley to relay to Ms. Tucker that they took her request seriously and to thank
her for her patronage of the library.
D. Consideration of the Library Director’s report. – Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley
introduced staff members to the library board and asked them to inform the board about
their various job duties. Board members were able to ask staff questions about adult
programming, outreach services, and other aspects of the staff members job duties.
Lashley handed out National Medal coins to members who were unable to attend the
Mayor’s thank you breakfast in June.

Lashley reviewed the monthly statistics and events. StoryCorps will be in Georgetown
three days in the fall to capture oral histories about the library.
Lashley reviewed the patron comments with the board and staff members.
E. Consideration of future meeting dates. –Lindsay Cooper, Vice Chair. The next Library
Advisory Board meeting will be Tuesday, August 7 at 6 p.m.
Vice Chair Cooper adjourned the meeting at 11:20 a.m.

Patron Comments
1. Please ask housekeeping to NOT clean drinking fountain…with stinky cleaner…yuck.
2. Lovely staff thank you! We love you.
3. Just designate ONE area in the library as a quiet area-JUST ONE!
4. Thank you for having adult summer reading program this year! So far it’s been fun. I love the coaster I
made doing a “craft”.
5. Group meetings should be restricted to private rooms very noisy.
6. Please stop using the FOUL solution to clean, drinking fountains the odor is revolting.
7. Need more book totes.
8. I appreciate all the help I get when I come here. You are all so patient.
9. You guys are awesome very helpful.
