Library Advisory Board
City of Georgetown
August 7, 2018

Public Library, 402 W. 8th Street
MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE: Pat Baldwin, Lindsay Cooper, John Hudson, Michael Kelley, Pete Rose, Linda Schaffer, and
Thom Sinwell.
MEMBERS ABSENT: None.
STAFF IN ATTENDANCE: Eric Lashley – Library Director.
Chair Rose called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m.
Regular Agenda
A. Citizens wishing to address the Board. As of the deadline, no persons were signed up to speak on items other
than what was posted on the agenda. No action required.
B. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes from the July 10, 2018 Library Advisory Board meeting. –
Pete Rose, Chair. Motion by Cooper; second by Schaffer to approve minutes from the July 10, 2018 meeting.
Approved 7-0.
C. Presentation and discussion on the 2030 Comprehensive Plan update. – Susan Watkins, Housing Coordinator
and Nat Waggoner, Long-Range Planner. Lashley reported that Long-Range planner Nat Waggoner had to
reschedule his update to the board. Lashley gave a brief explanation of the purpose of Waggoner and Watson’s
visit and will reschedule them to present at the September meeting.
D. Consideration of Library Director’s report. - Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley reviewed monthly statistics
with the board, noting that Bookmobile checkouts are low due to the heat and absence of school stops.
The library has received over 250 applicants for the open Library Assistant position.
The library began a new program allowing nonresident GISD employees to have a free library card. Staff
attended the convocation for GISD employees and signed up 7 new card members. They also met a
representative of the Juvenile Justice Center and spoke about reestablishing bookmobile service to the center.
When asked, Lashley stated the staff is working to provide free ACT/SAT test preparation for students. It was
discussed whether or not to give students who qualify for free and reduced lunch preferred seating. Lashley is
working with the school district to restore the Inter-library loan system between the school libraries and our
library. During last semester, the mail carrier stopped delivering and dropping off library books between the
school libraries and our library. This was a service that had been working for a number of years. Hopefully, the
service will be restored. Staff members of our library hope to meet with school librarians on August 9, 2018.
Lashley announced the library received a $20,000 donation from the W.D. Kelly Foundation. Lashley does not
have any plans on how to spend the money at this time. Members of the board asked if they could have input
on how the money was spent and Lashley obliged.

The City of Georgetown and Williamson County have come to an agreement to expand the parking lot across
from the library on 8th Street. It was reported the City has budgeted $30,000 to come up with conceptual plans
to improve the outdoor spaces between the four buildings within the new City center. The library will lead a
steering committee of City employees and will incorporate feedback from a number of stakeholders.
Lashley distributed Patrick Lloyd’s monthly report (attached). There continues to be a great need for social
services and Lloyd is documenting the gaps in services in Georgetown.
Lashley reviewed the patron comments.
E. Discussion of the library’s Strategic Plan Update. – Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley handed out a copy of
the major goals created at the Library Advisory Board’s retreat (attached), noting issues that have arisen since
that meeting. Discussion followed on how the library can engage teens, homeschool students and families. The
board asked Lashley to bring draft objectives and strategies to the September meeting for review. No action
required.
F. Consideration and possible action regarding future meeting dates. – Pete Rose, Chair. The September meeting
will be held as regularly schedule on Tuesday, September 4 at 6:00 p.m.
Chair Rose adjourned the meeting at 7:05 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Pat Baldwin Pete Rose
