Introduction and discussion on the 2014-15 Strategic Action Plan Items
ITEM SUMMARY:
Goal 1: Attracting & Retaining a Healthy Business Mix
a) Host Breakfast Bites Training and Small Business Workshops (June 18) – Chet/Jim
· Make list of potential topics and speakers for the year and opportunities to partner
· Reach out to new downtown business owners and developers with new/upcoming projects and invite to
attend/present
· Confirm speakers and date a month in advance
· Design promotional materials two weeks in advance to promote through social media, videos and/or
flyers
· Follow up by reading surveys and plan for next training
b) Welcome potential/new businesses to make aware of process and opportunities - Julie
· Partner with Promotions Committee to update printed brochure and produce digital version adding free
marketing/networking opportunities
· Distribute through Block Captain visits and quarterly meetings
c) Support downtown businesses through new semi-annual cash mob program, monthly luncheons and
Block Captain visits
· Research other downtown's cash mob programs and come up with “best practices” to implement
· Make list of potential participating businesses and select date for cash mob
· Promote cash mob via social media and PR
· Select regular meeting date for monthly luncheons and restaurant location and notify Main Street board
and committee members – Bethany
· Remind current assignment of blocks to each committee member and meet with them the week before
ER Committee meeting – Jim
d) Communicate with downtown business and property owners through downtown database – Vicki
· Communicate with Block Captains to get updated contact info from each downtown property
e) Target downtown buildings for specific new business mix – Bill/Bob/Cheryl
· Make list of downtown buildings that are currently available and what targeted business might work best
in the spaces
· Contact property owners about details of properties and future plans
Goal 2: Raising Awareness and Funding for Main Street Program Projects
a) Promote Façade & Sign Grant Program to business and property owners - Marcy
· Keep ongoing list of completed façade and sign grant recipients and schedule upcoming dates for check
presentations near current Main Street mtgs.
· Schedule date week in advance and confirm photographer and printing of large check
· Invite all board and committee members to attend
· Follow through with photographer to make sure photos are posted on city website and FB pages and
encourage board and committee members to like and share
Goal 3: Promoting Downtown's Image as a Signature Destination
a) Promote and support downtown as a Cultural District by using the arts as E.D. - Marcy
· Partner with CVB, HARC and Arts & Culture Boards to visit successful downtowns to gain new ideas
· Meet and plan with SU and GISD Fine Arts programs to promote student involvement and performance
in downtown
a) Encourage and promote Georgetown as a University Town
· Attend bi-monthly College Town Committee meetings to continue partnerships
· Meet with SU staff to continue hosting downtown pep rallies and homecoming parade
· Publicize special events and marketing opportunities at SU via social media and Block Captain visits
· Communicate with downtown businesses regarding special SU event dates and marketing opportunities
to be prepared for visitors
