MAIN STREET ADVISORY BOARD'S ECONOMIC VITALITY COMMITTEE
OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS
The Economic Vitality Sub-Committee established by the Main Street Advisory Board will meet at 9 a.m. on
Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the 2nd Floor Conference Room, 809 MLK, Jr. Street, Georgetown, TX
AGENDA
Mission Statement: Georgetown Main Street Program is a preservation-driven, economic development organization. We utilize diverse
community partners to create a destination downtown for everyone.
1. Call to order/welcome guests
2. Introduction and discussion on the 2016-17 Strategic Action Plan Items:
Strategy 1: Attracting & Retaining a Healthy Business Mix
a) Strengthen and retain current businesses via Breakfast Bites events.
• Discuss plans to date for June 14 Event; distribute remaining flyers – (Karen)
• Discuss ideas for Breakfast bites presentation for September– (Karen)
• Promote Breakfast Bites via social media – (Valerie/Tina)
b) Assist potential/new business owners to raise awareness of the permitting process
and incentive opportunities
• Distribute new brochures to block assignments, Breakfast Bites meetings, Visitor
Center and Chamber (Bill)
• Review brochure on a quarterly basis and update for next printing – (Bill)
• Updates needed for recent changes for Facade & Sign Grants when approved
c) Support and promote downtown businesses
• Summary of 3rd Monday monthly volunteer lunch in May and review meeting for
luncheon on June 19. (Cheryl)
• Assign Block captain positions and offer training to new participants

Strategy 2: Raising awareness and funding for Georgetown Main Street Projects
a) Promote Façade & Sign Grant Program to business and property owners Summary
of Low Down Meeting Check presentations
• Keep ongoing list of completed façade and sign recipients and schedule
upcoming dates for check presentations at quarterly Downtown Low Down
Meetings .
• Schedule date a week in advance and printing of large check.
• Confirm photographer and social media coverage
Strategy 3: Promoting downtown’s unique image as a vibrant, diverse and inclusive
destination
a) Promote and support downtown as a Cultural District by using the arts for economic
development
• Partner with CVB, HARC and Arts & Culture Boards to visit successful Texas
downtowns that use arts as an economic development tool to gain new ideas.
• Appoint a “roving” committee member to work between the EVC and Promotions
committee (Taylor)
b) Encourage and promote Georgetown as a College Town
• Attend bi-monthly College Town Committee meetings to continue to develop
partnerships with Southwestern University. Work with Jim Wilson and Taylor Kidd for
appointment to committee with these responsibilities.
• Meet with Southwestern University staff and faculty to promote events and tours in
downtown.
• Communicate and market with downtown partners about Southwestern University
special event dates as well as publicize via social media and websites (Valerie)
• Development of a “Dream Team” similar to San Marcos by working with SU admin.
