K. Curry reported on the upcoming Breakfast Bites event on September 11. Judy Lester will present on
Collective Success – The Power of Collaboration. Judy is a business coach and former owner of the Escape
Fine Crafts & Gifts.
D. Gaume reported on the fundraising team’s activities related to the holiday greeting cards created by local
artists collected through a call for art. The application and guidelines were sent out in July to interested artists
and published on Facebook. Kate suggested sending information to GISD and SU art instructors to encourage
student artwork submissions. The 2019 ornament design was shown and staff will be moving forward with
placing the order now that the design is finalized.
A. Adams reported on the Blazin’ Beer Crawl event. The event went well and sold out in it’s first year raising
$11,655 for the Façade and Sign Grant Program. Feedback from the survey was discussed, and additional
suggestions made for next year include: listing the types of beer on the program or in advance so people didn’t
have to wait in line for a beer they may not like, and keeping the event in August to serve as a boost to
downtown business during a slower time of year.
Staff reported on the Shop Small – Small Business Saturday event. The theme will remain the same, the
graphics have been updated to reflect this year’s dates. The next meeting will be in September. D. Gaume told
the board that businesses that sign up early have an opportunity for free advertising courtesy of American
Express to promote themselves before the event.
D. Gaume and staff reported on the BRE at Artisans Connect. One of the suggestions from the visit is already
being implemented and we hope to see positive results come from that in the future. Suggestions for future
BRE’s were also taken and staff will reach out to setup visits soon.
