San Jose Neighborhood Steering Committee
Minutes
Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at 6:00 pm.
The meeting was held at the Getsemani Community Center and broadcast virtually at
the below address:

Steering Committee Members present: Shorty Valdez, Liliana Vargas, Christina
Calixtro, Terry Pagan, Linda Barton (virtual), Miguel Ferguson (virtual), Rick Vasquez,
Marcos Gonzales(virtual), Beth Akins(virtual)
Steering Committee Members absent: Paola Chairez, Vrn Thomas
Staff present: Cesar Acosta, Long Range Planner, Susan Watkins, Housing and
Neighborhood Program Manager (virtual), Nat Waggoner, Long Range Planning
Manager, Sofia Nelson
Consultants present (virtual): Carter Coleman, Grace Barrett, and Jesse Wiles
Chair Christina Calixtro called the meeting to order at 6:12 pm.
Public Wishing to Address the Board
A. At the time of posting, no persons had signed up to address the Board.
Legislative Regular Agenda
B. Approval of June 1st meeting minutes
Motion to approve by Valdez, 2nd by Calixtro. Motion approved 7-0.
C. Presentation and discussion of San Jose Community meeting materials by Grace
Barrett, APD and Carter Coleman, APD. Grace Barrett provided an overview of
the initial findings for the consultant's first visit to Georgetown and through data
gathering.
The Steering Committee asked for an increase in font size and color change on
the presentation.

There was confusion around terms included in the presentation (single-family
detached and attached). A glossary will be included in the final report that
defines the terms used throughout the plan.
The Steering Committee that the presentation be translated and printed into
Spanish.
The Steering Committee asked if it is possible to get through all the stations in
two hours? APD responded that, in their experience, two hours is enough time to
complete all of the stations.
APD shared the draft Community Outreach and Engagement Guide and asked
for feedback by July 14. Waggoner offered to pick up edited drafts from SC
members.
Steering Committee members understand that they are to review and provided
comments on the outreach and engagement guide by July 14.
APD explained the five interactive stations that will be completed during the first
public meeting for San Jose.
Station 1: Vision
The Steering Committee recommended definitions for some of the words on the
cards was suggested. Consultant shared where this exercise has been successful
in past projects and will place include definitions.
Station 2: History
No comment from the Steering Committee.
Station 3: Transportation
No comment from the Steering Committee.
Station 4: Housing Concerns
No comment from the Steering Committee.
Station 5: Public Investment
No comment from the Steering Committee.
Following the review of the public meeting materials, staff and the Steering
Committee discussed expectations for meeting attendance, and ways the Steering
Committee members can work on increasing attendance. Each member offered to
reach out to their neighbors using flyers and that staff will follow up with each
member to see how outreach is progressing.
D. Discussion of Citywide updates
Waggoner shared with the Steering Committee that tomorrow (June 24), there
will be a city-wide meeting of neighborhood associations to give and receive
information from the Mayor's office.
Motion to close the meeting by Chair Calixtro at 7:50 pm.

National Night O ut - National Night O ut will be held on Tuesday, O ctober 5th, 2021, from 6 pm to 9 pm.
T he G eorgetown P olic e Department is acc epting registration forms from those neighborhoods hos ting a
party that would like the G eorgetown P olic e Department to participate. R egistration for the event will c los e

Hear the res ults of public feedbac k about the G eorgetown P arks and R ecreation Master P lan in a public
forum at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, in the C ounc il C hambers , 510 W. Ninth S t. R es idents may also
partic ipate virtually via Zoom. T he pres entation will include results from the mailed and open surveys , data
collec tion from facility and park inventories , and other projec t analys is . P artic ipants will have the
opportunity to as k questions during a ques tion-and-ans wer s es s ion at the end of the event. F or more
information about the P arks and R ecreation Master P lan and ins tructions for the public forum, visit
