SUBJECT:
Site visit, discussion and possible recommendation on a request for a Certificate of
Appropriateness (COA) for demolition for the property located at 605 East University Avenue,
bearing the legal description of Dimmit Addition, Block 84-85 (PT), 0.631 acres; Dimmit
Addition, Block 84-85 (PT), 0.3939 acres; and Dimmit Addition, Block 84, SE Corner
ITEM SUMMARY:
The City of Georgetown is in receipt of an application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for
demolition of the historic structure located at 605 East University Avenue. The HARC Demolition
Subcommittee will conduct a site visit to the property and review the application, prior to making
a recommendation to the HARC regarding the application.
The demolition application was submitted prior to July 1, 2015 implementation of the Unified
Development Code amendments. Therefore, the application will be reviewed under the previous
criteria, outlined in Section 3.13.020 D of the UDC. The applicant's letter of intent indicates that
the justification is based upon (a) replacing the structure with a new structure that is more
compatible or appropriate for the district, and (d) the structure is noncontributing to the district and
is not historically significant. The applicant's Letter of Intent and supporting documentation is
included for review.
In addition, the 1984 Historic Resource Survey form is attached for review. The property was
surveyed again in 2007 but no additional forms were created. The 1984 survey identified the
structure as a Medium priority structure, which was changed to Low priority in the 2007 survey.
The Demolition Subcommittee is tasked with evaluating the structure based upon the review
criteria in the previous UDC Section 3.13.040 and making a recommendation to the Commission.
The public hearing and final action on the application will occur at the July 23, 2015 HARC
meeting.
