Consideration and possible approval of the minutes of the June 26, 2014 sign subcommittee meeting.  Motion by Mee to approve the minutes as presented.  Second by Winder.  Approved 3 ‐0.  C. Public Hearing and possible action on a request for a Certificate of Design Compliance (CDC) for  signage for the property located at 312 West University Avenue, bearing the legal description of  Dalrymple Addition, Block E, lot 1, 2 (N/PT), .1656 acres. (CDC‐2014‐026)  Synatschk presented the staff report.  The applicant seeks a Certificate of Design Compliance for  signage for the office building located at 312 West University Avenue. The request includes refacing  and maintaining the freestanding monument sign located in front of the structure.  Ray Shawley,  agent for the applicant, was present for questions. There were no questions by the commissioners.  Knight opened the Public Hearing and with no speakers coming forth, closed the hearing.  Winder commented that she feels this application meets the intent of the Design Guidelines.  Mee  stated this proposed signage looks better than the previous signage.  Motion by Winder to approve CDC‐2014‐026 for 312 West University as submitted.  Second by  Mee.  Approved 3 – 0.  D. Public Hearing and possible action on a request for a Certificate of Design Compliance (CDC) for  signage for the property located at 610 South Main Street, bearing the legal description of City of  Georgetown, Block 38, Lot 5 (S/PT), .0895 acres. (CDC‐2014‐025)  Synatschk presented the staff report. The applicant seeks a Certificate of Design Compliance for  signage for the retail building located at 610 South Main Street. The request includes the installation  of a hanging sign underneath the canopy and a portable sign to be placed on the sidewalk during  business hours.   Staff recommends approval.  Ray Shawley, agent for the applicant, was present for  Historic and Architectural Review Commission Sign Subcommittee Page 2 of 2  Meeting:  July 24, 2014   questions.  Knight opened the Public Hearing and with no speakers coming forth, closed the hearing.  Knight questioned the sturdiness of the freestanding sign.  Shawley assured that it would survive the  elements and be weighted down for security.  Synatchk explained this sign would be similar to the  Visitors Center sign.  Motion by Winder to approve CDC‐2014‐025 as submitted.  Second by Mee.  Approved 3 – 0.    Adjournment.   Motion by Winder to adjourn the meeting.  Knight adjourned the meeting at 5:46 p.m.       ________________________________    __________________________________          Approved, Nancy Knight, Chair    Attest, Richard Mee    City of Georgetown, Texas SUBJECT: Public Hearing and possible action on a request for a Certificate of Design Compliance (CDC) for business signage for the property located at 111 West 9th Street, bearing the legal description of City of Georgetown, Block 51, Lot 6-7 (PTS), .1446 acres (CDC-2014-030). According to the submitted letter of intent, the applicant wishes to install a projecting sign and window and door signage Staff recommends approval of the request based on the findings that the request meets the approval criteria of Section 3.13.030 of the Unified Development Code (UDC), as outlined in the attached Staff Report. The affirmative vote of the majority of the HARC Sign Subcommittee members is required to approve the CDC request. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. The applicant paid the required fees. The colors, placement and size of the proposed signage meet the design guidelines. APPLICABLE DESIGN GUIDELINES 9.1 Consider the building front as part of an overall sign program. 9.2 A sign shall be subordinate to the overall building composition. 9.3 A primary sign should identify the services or business offered within. 9.8 A window sign may be considered. 9.10 A projecting sign may be considered. 9.15 A sign should not in any way obscure or compete with architectural details of an historic building facade. 9.19 Use colors for the sign that are compatible with those of the building front. 9.25 Signage should have a professional quality and a finished appearance.
